SUMMARY:CCU for Israel: Osi Sladek
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute and Colorado Christian University for CCU for Israel\, featuring Mr. Oscar “Osi” Sladek. \nIn 1939\, Osi Sladek’s childhood was upended as the Nazi Party took control of his home in Slovakia. For years\, Osi and his parents evaded the Holocaust with the help of Christian friends and neighbors before fleeing to Hungary and\, eventually\, hiding in the Tatra Mountains. Hear his amazing story of survival and why it is more important than ever to stand up against antisemitism. \nCCU for Israel: Osi Sladek\nWednesday\, March 4\, 2026\n12:15 pm – 1:15 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall; Anschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nRegister Now \nThis event has been made possible with generous support from the Richmond American Foundation. \nMEDIA CREDENTIALING: While members of the media are welcome to attend our events\, they are not allowed inside university buildings or facilities for the purpose of reporting unless they have received prior approval in writing from the Communications and Creative Services Department. For more information on how to apply for a media credential\, please email centennial@ccu.edu. \nAbout Oscar “Osi” Sladek \n \nOsi Sladek was born in Czechoslovakia in 1936. In 1939\, his world was turned upside down when the Nazi Party took control of Slovakia and introduced laws that segregated and persecuted the Jewish community. At a time when he should have been a carefree child\, he was torn away from his youth and subjected to intense fear. Osi and his parents survived the Holocaust in hiding: first\, with the help of Christian friends and neighbors\, and then\, Osi’s parents made the difficult decision to smuggle him across the border to Hungary to live with relatives. Eventually\, Osi returned to his Czechoslovakia\, where he and his parents went into hiding in the Tatra Mountain range alongside Jewish Partisans. Osi continues to share his story to inspire the next generation to stand up against antisemitism and hate in our communities today.
