SUMMARY:Faith and Freedom Speaker Series: Christianity and the Spirit of 1776
DESCRIPTION:Join the National Endowment for the Humanities and Centennial Institute for the Faith and Freedom Speaker Series: Christianity and the Spirit of 1776\, featuring Dr. Mark David Hall. \nDespite being the only Founder to help draft the Declaration and Resolves (1774)\, the Articles of Association (1774)\, the Declaration of Independence (1776)\, the Articles of Confederation (1777\, 1778)\, the Constitution (1787)\, and the Bill of Rights (1791)\, Roger Sherman is largely unknown today. Not merely present as these foundational documents were crafted\, Sherman served on the five-man committee that wrote the Declaration of Independence\, was among the most significant delegates to the Constitutional Convention\, and as a Representative and Senator in the new republic he played important roles in the drafting the Bill of Rights and debates over the proper scope of the national government’s power. He earned a BA in political science from Wheaton College and a PhD in government from the University of Virginia. He has written\, edited\, or co-edited fifteen books\, including Did America Have a Christian Founding? Separating Modern Myth from Historical Truth.

He serves as director of the Rivendell Center in New York City. He is a Presidential Scholar at New College of Florida and the C.S. Lewis Scholar for Public Life at Grove City College. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller A Hobbit\, a Wardrobe\, and a Great War: How J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Rediscovered Faith\, Friendship\, and Heroism in the Cataclysm of 1914-1918 and his new release The War for Middle-Earth: J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Confront the Gathering Storm\, 1933–1945. \nHis commentary appears in outlets such as The New York Times\, The Wall Street Journal\, National Affairs\, The New Criterion\, National Geographic\, Law and Liberty\, The National Interest\, and National Review.
