SUMMARY:Truth Rising Documentary Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute and the Colson Center for a screening of the new documentary Truth Rising. Following the screening\, Jack Phillips will join us for a conversation and Q&A session. \nEvery day\, you are bombarded with harmful ideologies and false narratives. As Christians\, it’s hard sometimes to know how to live faithfully in our culture. Maybe you’re afraid to speak up\, confused about what the Bible has to say about today’s cultural topics\, don’t think your voice will make a difference\, or feel the cost of speaking up isn’t worth it. \nIf you can relate\, you’re not alone. Truth Rising – a new documentary presented by Focus on the Family and the Colson Center – shares the stories of ordinary Christians who chose courage over fear. \nWe are living in a civilization that has abandoned truth. Detached from the essential truths that nourished it\, the West will not survive. And every Christian must decide who we will be and how we will live in this civilizational moment. Christians are not victims; we can choose to decline or to act as agents of renewal. \nIn Truth Rising\, John Stonestreet of the Colson Center and renowned author and social critic Os Guinness explore the decline of Western civilization and take an unflinching look at the confusion surrounding today’s most pressing issues. \nPerhaps the most inspirational part of Truth Rising are stories from ordinary Christians who have courageously taken a stand right where God has placed them\, including: \n\nChloe Cole\, detransitioned child protection activist\nJack Phillips\, Owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop\nSeth Dillon\, CEO of The Babylon Bee\nKaty Faust\, Founder of Them Before Us\nWinston Marshall\, former banjoist for Mumford and Sons\nAyaan Hirsi Ali\, founder of AHA Foundation & female human rights activist*\n\nWe are called to this moment. The time for decision is now. How will we live? \n*Ayaan Hirsi Ali will speak at Colorado Christian University on Tuesday\, February 24. To learn more and purchase tickets\, please click here. \nTruth Rising Documentary Screening & Conversation with Jack Phillips\nWednesday\, February 4\, 2026\n6:30 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nDonnithorne Great Hall\nAnschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:The War for Middle-Earth
DESCRIPTION:Join Centennial Institute for an event with notable scholar and author Dr. Joseph Loconte\, as he discusses his new book The War for Middle-Earth. \n \nAmid the catastrophe of the Second World War\, two Oxford scholars and friends wrote epic fantasies—not as an escape from the conflict but as a powerful weapon to defend the dignity and worth of every human soul. The War for Middle-Earth: J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Confront the Gathering Storm\, 1933–1945\, by New York Times bestselling author Joseph Loconte\, reveals how Tolkien and Lewis used their imagination to battle the political ideologies that threatened to destroy Western civilization. \nLoconte traces how these combat veterans of the First World War responded to the rise of fascism\, Nazism\, communism\, and totalitarianism—not with cynicism and despair\, but with moral clarity and moral courage. In both their scholarship and their works of fiction\, they offered a bracing vision of the human story: a recovery of ancient truths and virtues to light a path through the gathering darkness of their age. \nThe War for Middle-Earth\nThursday\, November 13\, 2025\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall\nAnschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nAbout Joseph Loconte \n \nJoseph Loconte\, PhD\, is an author\, historian\, and filmmaker. He serves as director of the Rivendell Center in New York City. He is a Presidential Scholar at New College of Florida and the C.S. Lewis Scholar for Public Life at Grove City College. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller A Hobbit\, a Wardrobe\, and a Great War: How J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Rediscovered Faith\, Friendship\, and Heroism in the Cataclysm of 1914-1918 and his new release The War for Middle-Earth: J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Confront the Gathering Storm\, 1933–1945. \nHis commentary appears in outlets such as The New York Times\, The Wall Street Journal\, National Affairs\, The New Criterion\, National Geographic\, Law and Liberty\, The National Interest\, and National Review. For ten years\, Loconte served as a commentator for National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. \nLoconte is a native of Brooklyn\, NY\, a forlorn fan of the NY Mets\, and a frequent traveler to sunny Italy. SUMMARY:Issue Forum: The Virtue of Color-Blindness and the Classics
DESCRIPTION:Join Centennial Institute for a conversation with Dr. Andre Archie\, associate professor of ancient Greek philosophy at Colorado State University\, on how the classical tradition might help defeat identity politics. \nDr. Archie’s approach to race relations – the color-blind approach – is grounded on the moral belief that the mere possession of hereditary qualities\, like race\, should not confer moral merit by their possession or nonpossession. Instead\, moral merit can be\, and should be\, conferred upon an individual’s actions\, because actions reveal one’s character. The belief in character\, as opposed to ascriptive qualities\, as the locus of moral agency has a rich and comprehensive history in the West\, and it continues to animate our own Founding documents and way of life. \nIssue Forum: The Virtue of Color-Blindness and the Classics\nThursday\, November 13\, 2025\n12:15 pm – 1:15 pm MT\nArmstrong Center Parlor\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nRegister Now \nMEDIA CREDENTIALING: While members of the media are welcome to attend our events\, they are not allowed inside university buildings or facilities for the purpose of reporting unless they have received prior approval in writing from the Communications and Creative Services Department. For more information on how to apply for a media credential\, please email centennial@ccu.edu. \nAbout Dr. Andre Archie \nAndre Archie\, associate professor of ancient Greek philosophy at Colorado State University\, received his PhD from Duquesne University. He specializes in the History of Ancient Greek Philosophy and Ancient Greek Political Philosophy. His latest research focuses on methodological issues in Plato and Aristotle. Andre has published in various academic journals such as the Journal of Philosophical Research\, Ancient Philosophy\, History of Political Thought\, and Scholia. He is the author of Politics in Socrates’ Alcibiades: A Philosophical Account of Plato’s Dialogue Alcibiades Major (Springer 2015). \nAndre’s scholarship also highlights the value of Classical Studies and how it can provide a much-needed perspective on topical issues that often get discussed glibly by today’s educators. Such issues are identity politics\, race\, family\, and culture. Andre’s engagement with classical antiquity wholeheartedly affirms its positive and civilizing values. His writings in these areas have appeared in National Review\, The American Conservative\, and Modern Age. \nWhen not teaching and writing\, Andre enjoys traveling\, the occasional ski weekend with his family\, long walks with his wife\, and reading good books. His latest book is The Virtue of Color-Blindness. \n

SUMMARY:Issue Monday: Democracy\, Faith\, and Fiction: Why We Still Need the Novel
DESCRIPTION:Join Centennial Institute for a special conversation with Dr. Christopher J. Scalia\, senior fellow in the Social\, Cultural\, and Constitutional Studies department at the American Enterprise Institute and son of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia\, about his new book\, 13 Novels Conservatives Will Love (but Probably Haven’t Read). \nIn an age of endless digital distractions like streaming services\, social media\, and video games—not to mention the rise of artificial intelligence—it’s no surprise that Americans are reading less and less fiction. What’s so bad about that? What will we lose if we stop engaging with great novels? Dr. Scalia will explain why Americans who care about the health of their democracy—and Christians who want to develop their faith—should shape their moral imaginations by immersing themselves in great fiction of the past and present. \nIssue Monday: Democracy\, Faith\, and Fiction: Why We Still Need the Novel\nMonday\, November 10\, 2025\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nLeprino 170/172\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Issue Monday: The Assault on Religious Liberty\, Free Speech\, and Parental Rights in Colorado
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for a critical Issue Monday event exploring the growing threats to core constitutional freedoms in Colorado. \nAs Colorado faces a third visit to the U.S. Supreme Court in seven years for violating conscience rights in Chiles v. Salazar\, the ongoing assaults on individual liberty are increasingly impacting families and religious communities across the state. Our expert panel will examine recent and troubling developments\, including the Elizabeth School District controversy over the removal of inappropriate books\, state pressure on Camp IdRaHaJe to compromise its religious mission\, and the increasing trend of school administrators facilitating gender transitions without parental consent. This timely conversation will highlight the importance of protecting religious liberty\, free speech\, and parental rights in the face of mounting government overreach. \nThis event will not be available for livestreaming; we apologize for any inconvenience. \nIssue Monday: The Assault on Religious Liberty\, Free Speech\, and Parental Rights in Colorado\nMonday\, October 13\, 2025\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall\nAnschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Centennial Impact Summit: Theology\, Technology\, and Anthropology
DESCRIPTION:Centennial Impact Summit 2025\nSeptember 26-27\, 2025 at Colorado Christian University\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the inaugural Centennial Impact Summit! \nAmerican culture has experienced a seismic social change in recent decades. From fertility and mortality\, sex and gender\, work and leisure\, and more\, conservative and Christian values have eroded so rapidly as to have become almost unintelligible. While most analyses of this shift have focused on the roles played by politics\, history\, and religion\, few have examined the role of technology in reshaping the American Christian’s understanding of morality\, the world\, and oneself. \nWe are now faced with a societal dilemma: The more our reliance on technology grows\, the more dehumanized we become. How are we to be the embodiment of Christ to our communities? What is the proper view of personhood\, society\, and politics that will lead to human flourishing? This Summit will provide a forum for Christians to take a closer look at how the Church can Reclaim Embodiment in a Brave New World. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Issue Monday: The Classical and Christian Origins of the American Founding
DESCRIPTION:Join Centennial Institute for our annual Constitution Day Lecture\, featuring Dr. Kody W. Cooper. \nOver the last few decades\, many political philosophers have rejected notions that the American Founders were influenced by classical Judeo-Christian political thought. However\, this runs counter to the traditional understanding of the American Founding. Dr. Kody W. Cooper\, co-author of the book The Classical and Christian Origins of American Politics: Political Theology\, Natural Law\, and the American Founding\, will examine the evidence for Christianity’s influence on the founders\, including their view of providence’s role in the American Revolution and their understanding of foundational political principles\, including popular sovereignty and the rule of law. \nIssue Monday: The Classical and Christian Origins of the American Founding\nMonday\, September 15\, 2025\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall\nAnschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:The 1916 Project Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute and CCU for Life for a screening of Seth Gruber’s new documentary\, The 1916 Project\, followed by a discussion about the film’s main themes with AJ Hurley\, national organizer of outreach for The White Rose Resistance. \nThe 1916 Project is a powerful documentary that uncovers the disturbing legacy of Margaret Sanger\, the founder of Planned Parenthood\, and her deep ties to the eugenics movement (a harmful pseudoscientific belief aimed at “improving” humanity by controlling who could reproduce. This ideology targeted marginalized groups—especially people of color\, the poor\, and those with disabilities—justifying horrific policies like forced sterilizations and treating human lives as disposable). Through compelling historical research and expert analysis\, the film reveals how Sanger’s racist and elitist ideologies have shaped the modern cultural landscape. From the promotion of abortion to the breakdown of family structures and the rise of gender confusion\, The 1916 Project exposes the enduring impact of her influence\, particularly on communities of color. The film serves as a call to action for those seeking to understand the origins of America’s moral decline and the forces at play in today’s culture war. \nTHIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. \nThe 1916 Project Screening & Discussion\nWednesday\, April 9\, 2025\n6:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall; Anschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nAbout AJ Hurley \n \nAJ Hurley is a fiery torchbearer of the pro-life movement. As a national speaker\, activist\, and leader in the fight against the culture of death\, AJ is an unrelenting force bringing change to America. AJ made national news when he and a group of activists exposed a box of unborn babies in Washington\, DC\, on March 25\, 2023\, outside of an abortion clinic. He co-founded the #JusticeForTheFive campaign to highlight late-term abortion and spent years uncovering a fetal organ trafficking ring funded by taxpayer money. Before becoming a full-time activist\, AJ spent eight years as a Neonatal Respiratory Care Practitioner\, dedicating himself to saving the lives of the most vulnerable patients. This experience fueled his passion to protect unborn children. AJ has worked as the National Director of Activism at Live Action and Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust. He now serves as the national organizer of outreach for The White Rose Resistance\, where he aims to train and mobilize Christians nationwide to combat child killing.

After graduating\, Pence practiced law\, led the Indiana Policy Review Foundation\, and began hosting The Mike Pence Show\, a syndicated talk radio show and a weekly television public affairs program in Indiana. \nGrowing up in Indiana\, surrounded by good\, hardworking Hoosiers\, Pence always knew that he needed to give back to the state and the country that had given him so much. In 2000\, he launched a successful bid for his local congressional seat\, entering the United States House of Representatives at the age of 41. The people of east-central Indiana elected Pence six times to represent them in Congress. \nIn 2013\, Pence left the nation’s capital when Hoosiers elected him the 50th Governor of Indiana. He brought his limited government and low-tax philosophy to the Indiana Statehouse. As Governor\, he enacted the largest income tax cut in Indiana history\, lowering individual income tax rates\, the business personal property tax\, and the corporate income tax in order to strengthen the State’s competitive edge and attract new investment and good-paying jobs. \nIt was Indiana’s success story\, Pence’s record of legislative and executive experience\, and his strong family values that prompted his selection as the vice presidential nominee in July 2016. After being elected in November 2016\, he entered office on January 20\, 2017. \nAbout Former Second Lady Karen Pence \n \nKaren Pence\, wife of Vice President Mike Pence\, is a mother\, educator\, and award-winning watercolor artist. Mrs. Pence works to bring attention to art therapy and to the sacrifices made by military service members and their families. \nMrs. Pence dedicated 30 years in the classroom as an elementary school teacher before becoming the First Lady of Indiana in 2013. In her role as First Lady of Indiana\, Mrs. Pence created the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation\, a 501 (c)3\, established with the purpose to encourage and support youth and families of Indiana. The Foundation’s board awarded over $600\,000 in grants to charities throughout Indiana in three years. \nAs Second Lady of the United States\, Mrs. Pence was committed to raising awareness and educating the public about the mental health profession of art therapy in the United States and around the world. She observed art therapy programs in the Asia Pacific region\, Australia\, Europe\, South America\, Africa\, Canada\, and across the United States. \nIn October 2017\, Mrs. Pence launched her art therapy initiative\, Healing with the HeART. She wants to elevate the profession so that people understand that art therapy is a mental health profession\, not arts and crafts. The former Second Lady also wants to help people understand that art therapy is an option for various conditions\, illnesses\, and life experiences; and to encourage young people to go into the profession. \nMrs. Pence also serves as an encourager to military service members\, spouses\, and their families. She has hosted and participated in numerous events to honor and recognize all of those in the Armed Forces. In September 2018\, Mrs. Pence launched an awareness campaign to elevate and encourage our nation’s military spouses. As part of the campaign\, Mrs. Pence educates military spouses about the available resources and opportunities to support spouses and their families. In August 2019\, the American Legion Auxiliary awarded Mrs. Pence the Public Spirit Award for her contributions that positively impact communities through service to our military\, veterans\, and their families.

SUMMARY:Constitution Day Lecture: How the Structure of the Constitution Preserves Liberty
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our second-annual Constitution Day Lecture. \nThe Founding Fathers created the first modern form of government to acknowledge that rights came from God\, not government. To preserve these liberties from the encroachment of political power\, the United States Constitution was uniquely designed to protect individual liberty by dividing power among multiple branches\, granting limited and enumerated powers to the federal government\, ensuring checks and balances\, and securing fundamental rights. \nAt a time when individual liberty seems to be under assault\, it is essential that we return to our founding principles. \nConstitution Day Lecture\nMonday\, September 18\, 2023\n6:30 pm – 8:00 pm MT\nGreat Hall\, Anschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nAbout Sean Nation \nSean Nation is Deputy General Counsel for the Mountain States Legal Foundation\, where he focuses on defending individual liberty. A native of Georgia\, he attended Emory University for his undergraduate and New York University School of Law. While at NYU\, he helped to found the Journal of Law and Liberty\, the first student-edited law journal dedicated to the critical exploration of classical liberal ideas. He has dedicated his career to helping individuals recover damages in class and collective actions. He is admitted to practice in the states of New York and Georgia and various federal courts. \nOnline Form – Constitution Day 2023 \nPowered by Formstack

SUMMARY:Preserving Free Speech: An Evening with Lorie Smith and 303 Creative
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University and Alliance Defending Freedom for a conversation with Lorie Smith about recent oral arguments in the Supreme Court case 303 Creative v. Elenis. \nShould the government be able to tell Americans what they can and cannot say? Or should artists be forced to express messages they don’t believe? What happens when public accommodation laws and free speech collide? \nGraphic artist and website designer Lorie Smith has asked the Court to decide whether the state of Colorado can force her to create custom websites that violate her beliefs about marriage. At the heart of the case is whether Colorado can use its public accommodations law—the same law that the state used to target Christian cake artist Jack Philips of Masterpiece Cakeshop—to compel speech and excise beliefs the government dislikes from the public square.  Like Jack\, Lorie serves everyone\, including those who identify as LGBT.  She simply wants the freedom to create custom art and promote messages consistent with her beliefs. A win for Lorie in this case is a win for all Americans—because no one should be forced by the government to say something with which they disagree. \nPreserving Free Speech: An Evening with Lorie Smith and 303 Creative\nTuesday\, February 7\, 2023\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W.
