SUMMARY:Rising from the Rubble: Reflections on 9/11 and the Need to Remember
DESCRIPTION:“Where were you on 9/11?” A question that has resounded throughout society over the past two decades is quickly becoming more and more obsolete. As the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11\, 2001\, drastically changed the American way of life and its tragic legacy continues to endure\, the rising generation has only ever known a post-9/11 America. They did not witness that fateful day in real-time\, and the collective memory is beginning to fade. \nJoin the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University for a conversation about what happened on that day in September 2001 and how America’s response changed the lives of millions of Americans and others around the world. With backgrounds in military and intelligence\, Dr. David Murphy and Dr. Tom Copeland will unpack 9/11\, its aftermath\, and the need to remember. \nCCU Undergraduate students are encouraged to also attend the documentary screening on Tuesday\, September 10. SUMMARY:Constitution Day Lecture: How the Structure of the Constitution Preserves Liberty
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our second-annual Constitution Day Lecture. \nThe Founding Fathers created the first modern form of government to acknowledge that rights came from God\, not government. To preserve these liberties from the encroachment of political power\, the United States Constitution was uniquely designed to protect individual liberty by dividing power among multiple branches\, granting limited and enumerated powers to the federal government\, ensuring checks and balances\, and securing fundamental rights. \nAt a time when individual liberty seems to be under assault\, it is essential that we return to our founding principles. \nConstitution Day Lecture\nMonday\, September 18\, 2023\n6:30 pm – 8:00 pm MT\nGreat Hall\, Anschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nAbout Sean Nation \nSean Nation is Deputy General Counsel for the Mountain States Legal Foundation\, where he focuses on defending individual liberty. A native of Georgia\, he attended Emory University for his undergraduate and New York University School of Law. While at NYU\, he helped to found the Journal of Law and Liberty\, the first student-edited law journal dedicated to the critical exploration of classical liberal ideas. He has dedicated his career to helping individuals recover damages in class and collective actions. He is admitted to practice in the states of New York and Georgia and various federal courts. \nOnline Form – Constitution Day 2023 \nPowered by Formstack

SUMMARY:Preserving Free Speech: An Evening with Lorie Smith and 303 Creative
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University and Alliance Defending Freedom for a conversation with Lorie Smith about recent oral arguments in the Supreme Court case 303 Creative v. Elenis. \nShould the government be able to tell Americans what they can and cannot say? Or should artists be forced to express messages they don’t believe? What happens when public accommodation laws and free speech collide? \nGraphic artist and website designer Lorie Smith has asked the Court to decide whether the state of Colorado can force her to create custom websites that violate her beliefs about marriage. At the heart of the case is whether Colorado can use its public accommodations law—the same law that the state used to target Christian cake artist Jack Philips of Masterpiece Cakeshop—to compel speech and excise beliefs the government dislikes from the public square.  Like Jack\, Lorie serves everyone\, including those who identify as LGBT.  She simply wants the freedom to create custom art and promote messages consistent with her beliefs. A win for Lorie in this case is a win for all Americans—because no one should be forced by the government to say something with which they disagree. \nPreserving Free Speech: An Evening with Lorie Smith and 303 Creative\nTuesday\, February 7\, 2023\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Issue Forum: Conservatism: A Rediscovery
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University for an evening with the premiere political theorist of the modern Western world: Dr. Yoram Hazony. \nThe idea that American conservatism is identical to “classical” liberalism—widely held since the 1960s—is seriously mistaken. Dr. Hazony argues that the best hope for Western democracy is a return to the empiricist\, religious\, and nationalist traditions of America and Britain—the conservative traditions that brought greatness to the English-speaking nations and became the model for national freedom for the entire world. \nHazony will examine how Anglo-American conservatism became a distinctive alternative to divine-right monarchy\, Puritan theocracy\, and liberal revolution. After tracing the tradition from the Wars of the Roses to Burke and across the Atlantic to the American Federalists and Lincoln\, he will describe the rise and fall of Enlightenment liberalism after World War II and the present-day debates between neoconservatives and national conservatives over how to respond to liberalism and the woke left and bring a revival of authentic Anglo-American conservatism in the twenty-first century. \nIssue Forum: Conservatism: A Rediscovery\nWednesday\, October 19\, 2022\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. It has been selected as Conservative Book of the Year for 2019\, and was an amazon #1 best-seller in both International Diplomacy and Nationalism. \nHis most recent book Conservatism: A Rediscovery was published by Regnery in May 2022. \nHis previous books include The Philosophy of Hebrew Scripture (Cambridge University Press\, 2012)\, which won the second place PROSE award for the best book in the category of Theology and Religion by the Association of American Publishers; The Jewish State: The Struggle for Israel’s Soul (Basic Books\, 2000); and God and Politics in Esther (Cambridge University Press\, 2016). \nHis work has appeared in The Wall St. Journal\, The New York Times\, Fox News\, CNN\, NPR\, Time Magazine\, The New Republic\, National Review\, Commentary\, First Things\, and American Affairs\, among others. The Center’s publishing arm\, Shalem Press\, became Israel’s leading publisher of Western philosophy translated into Hebrew and published Azure magazine. In 2013\, Shalem was accredited to grant Israel’s first Liberal Arts B.A.\, and formally became Shalem College. He served as President of Shalem from 1994-2002\, and as Provost from 2005-2012. DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our March Distinguished Lecture from Ian Rowe\, Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. \nYoung people in disadvantaged communities face societal barriers and a cultural narrative that tells them they are victims. SUMMARY:Debate: Are Reparations Key to Achieving Racial Reconciliation?
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute and the Intercollegiate Studies Institute as we examine the question of reparation policies in relation to racial reconciliation in the U.S. \nReparations are an issue on the horizon\, with some cities across the country considering reparations to address historical injustices such as slavery. While some believe reparations would be an act of social justice for the descendants of those who suffered as slaves\, others believe that reparations don’t make sense for a variety of reasons\, including that they would imply that Americans today with no affiliation themselves with slavery are guilty of the sins of past generations. \nThe debate will be moderated by Mikayle Scheffel\, Instructor of Communication and Head Coach of the Speech and Debate Team at Colorado Christian University. \nDebate: Are Reparations Key to Achieving Racial Reconciliation?\nMonday\, March 7\, 2022\n7:30pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: After Afghanistan: How Just War Theory Helps Make Sense of a Tragedy
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our February Distinguished Lecture Series event featuring Dr. Eric Patterson\, Executive Vice President of the Religious Freedom Institute. \nThe Christian tradition of Just Theory applies Biblical principles to how a nation decides to go to war and how it should fight wars. But\, as Dr. Patterson points out\, the tradition can also inform what happens after a war ends – how one might restore order\, liberty\, and justice after the fighting stops. This lecture will look at the tragic case of post-war Afghanistan\, and what the U.S. could and should do differently next time. \nDistinguished Lecture Series: After Afghanistan: How Just War Theory Helps Make Sense of a Tragedy\nDr. Eric Patterson\nMonday\, February 7\, 2022\n7:30pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Speechless: Controlling Words\, Controlling Minds with Michael Knowles
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our December Distinguished Lecture Series as we hear from Michael Knowles\, Daily Wire contributor and author of the book: Speechless: Controlling Words\, Controlling Minds. This event is hosted in partnership with the Young America’s Foundation. \nOur republic was built upon the ideas of freedom of conscience and free public discourse. However\, over the past few years\, free speech has come under attack. Political correctness\, woke opinions\, and cancel culture silence opposing viewpoints daily. How did we get to this point? And how do we fight to restore our First Amendment rights? \nMichael Knowles will examine how the control over words and ideas leads to direct control on the minds of our fellow citizens. In a time where something you post on social media creates fear of retribution and “cancellation\,” Knowles will discuss how to fight – and win – the war of ideas. \nDistinguished Lecture Series: Speechless: Controlling Words\, Controlling Minds\nMichael Knowles\nMonday\, December 6\, 2021\n7:30pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave\nLakewood\, CO 80226  \nWatch online here. \nIn-person attendance registration is now closed. Walk-up admission will be granted 15 minutes ahead of event start time\, dependent on seating availability. Seating will be on a first-come\, first-served basis. Overflow seating will be available in the Anschutz amphitheater with a livestream feed.  \nWe are following Jefferson County’s recent health mandate which requires masks in all indoor spaces. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. \nAbout Michael Knowles: \nMichael Knowles is the celebrated host of “The Michael Knowles Show” at the Daily Wire\, “The Book Club” at PragerU\, and “Verdict with Ted Cruz.” In 2017\, Michael published the #1 national bestselling treatise Reasons to Vote for Democrats\, which President Donald Trump hailed as “a great book for your reading enjoyment.” In late 2020\, after an appearance guest-hosting “The Rush Limbaugh Program\,” it was announced that Michael’s daily podcast would be syndicated to terrestrial radio. \nMichael has appeared regularly on Fox News Channel and other major networks\, and his writing has been featured on the Daily Wire\, the American Mind\, Fox News\, and the Daily Caller. Michael is a graduate of Yale University and has lectured on college campuses around the country. \nHosted in Partnership with: \n \n

Wade is reversed? \nIn 1973\, the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Roe v. Wade shook the foundation of the United States. As abortion was effectively protected throughout the U.S.\, many began the long fight to reclaim the Right to Life\, as guaranteed in America’s founding. Now\, the Supreme Court has chosen yet again to hear an abortion case: Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. \nIn 2018\, the Jackson Women’s Health Organization challenged Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act\, prohibiting abortions after the fifteenth week of pregnancy except in the cases of a medical emergency. The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for Dobbs on December 1\, 2021. If decided in favor of Dobbs\, this would give states the authority to limit abortions\, effectively protecting Mississippi’s legislation and encouraging other states to implement similar policies. \nJoin with faith leaders and pro-life leaders as we rally and pray for this historic case! Now is the time to relegate Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history. \nPro-Life Rally for Dobbs Supreme Court Case\nMonday\, November 29\, 2021\n7:300pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Christianity and Wokeness
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Owen Strachan\, author of Christianity and Wokeness: How the Social Justice Movement is Hijacking the Gospel – and the Way to Stop It\, for our November Distinguished Lecture Series. \nThe “wokeness” that emerged from the social unrest of 2020 has swept through schools\, businesses\, and even sports. Driven by the radical ideologies of Critical Race Theory and intersectionality\, it has destabilized public and private life—including the Church. \nMany evangelicals have joined the crusade. Gripped by a desire for justice and rightly grieved by past evils like slavery\, many pastors are preaching the woke gospel—identifying “whiteness” (an imaginary concept) with “white supremacy\,” calling bewildered Christians to repent of their supposed guilt for the sins of past generations. \nDr. Owen Strachan will discuss how this is not true justice\, nor is it true Christianity. While wokeness employs biblical vocabulary and concepts\, it is an alternative religion\, far from Christianity in both its methods and its fruit. A potent blend of racism\, paganism\, and grievance\, wokeness encourages “partiality” and undermines the unifying work of the Holy Spirit. However\, there is an antidote to this growing threat facing the church: the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. \nDistinguished Lecture Series: Christianity and Wokeness\nDr. Owen Strachan\nMonday\, November 15\, 2021\n7:30pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226\nRegister below to attend in-person or watch online here. \nAbout Dr. Owen Strachan: \n \nDr. Owen Strachan is Provost and Research Professor of Theology at Grace Bible Theological Seminary in Conway\, Arkansas. He is a Senior Fellow with Family Research Council and the author of numerous books\, including Reenchanting Humanity\, The Pastor as Public Theologian (with Kevin Vanhoozer)\, and Always in God’s Hands: Day by Day in the Company of Jonathan Edwards. Married to Bethany\, he is the father of three children and enjoys rowing\, Western films\, outlaw country\, and Churchill books. \nOnline Form – DL – Jack Posobiec – 10.18.21 – COPY \nPowered by Formstack

SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Antifa: Stories from Inside the Black Bloc
DESCRIPTION:For our October Distinguished Lecture Series\, Jack Posobiec will be discussing his new book The Antifa: Stories from Inside the Black Bloc. \nFew in the media have followed Antifa more closely – and have the scars to prove it – than journalist Jack Posobiec. \nFrom infiltrating their 2016 meetings where they planned their attack on Trump’s inauguration to going undercover in Seattle’s CHAZ in 2020\, Posobiec has never backed down from exposing the true nature of Antifa. \nPosobiec will discuss the secret history of this radical anarchist group while integrating his personal encounters with some of its most hardcore and violent members. While few Americans were aware of Antifa’s existence until recently\, it is actually part of a violent revolutionary tradition that dates back more than a hundred years. And\, like its predecessors\, it is driven by an overriding aim: the overthrow of the existing political order and capitalism\, and replacing it with a communist state. \nAntifa saw and seized its chance in 2020. Because it was not brought to heel – indeed\, was encouraged in its violent mayhem by sympathetic city and state governments – it now looms as a greater threat than ever before. \nDistinguished Lecture Series: The Antifa: Stories from Inside the Black Bloc\nJack Posobiec\nMonday\, October 18\, 2021\n7:00pm – 8:30pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226\nRegister below to attend in-person or watch online here. \nAbout Jack Posobiec: \nJack Posobiec is the Senior Editor of Human Events\, a political news and analysis outlet founded in 1944. Prior to that\, Posobiec served as a Washington\, D.C. correspondent at One America News Network. Posobiec is a veteran intelligence officer of the United States Navy with multiple deployments\, including Guantanamo Bay and East Asia. At Guantanamo Bay\, Posobiec served as a HUMINT (human intelligence) analyst in the interrogation cell. In 2014\, he joined the Office of Naval Intelligence as an officer at the Kennedy Irregular Warfare Center which provided intelligence to Navy Special Warfare and Navy Expeditionary Combat Command. \nPosobiec completed his final deployment in 2016 as the Intelligence Director for Navy Expeditionary Forces Command Pacific – Task Force 75. Task Force 75 provides expeditionary intelligence throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region as directed by 7th Fleet Commander. \nPosobiec has written three non-fiction books: Citizens for Trump: The Inside Story of the People’s Movement to Take Back America; 4D Warfare: A Doctrine for a New Generation of Politics; and Antifa: Inside the Black Bloc. In 2019\, Posobiec was awarded a Lincoln Fellowship by the Claremont Institute. Posobiec is also a supporter of Let Them Live\, a nonprofit that saves lives from abortion by supporting women in crisis pregnancies. Posobiec’s life was the inspiration for the graphic novel ‘Agent Poso’ by Chuck Dixon and Brett Smith. \nAfter graduating from Temple University\, Posobiec spent 2 years in China working in international business and learning to speak fluent Mandarin Chinese. Originally from the Philadelphia area\, Posobiec now resides in Washington\, D.C. with his wife\, Tanya\, and their two sons. \nOnline Form – DL – Jack Posobiec – 10.18.21 \nPowered by Formstack

SUMMARY:20th Anniversary of 9/11 and Legacy of the Afghan War
DESCRIPTION:On September 11\, 2001\, terror unfolded in the sky and came to a devastating end at the World Trade Center\, the Pentagon\, and a field near Shanksville\, PA. That day will forever be etched in the minds of those who witnessed those horrific images as they occurred in real time. In the face of destruction\, American heroism and patriotism united the country to fight terrorism but also to begin the healing process. \nTwenty years later\, the nation is shocked again by headlines about the fall of Afghanistan. Two decades of war and efforts to bring stability and human rights to the Afghans stopped in a matter of days. Thirteen U.S. soldiers were killed during the withdrawal. As Americans come to grips with the horrifying news of the last few weeks\, many question whether the effort was worth the cost. \nJoin the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University for a commemorative service as we remember the lives lost\, honor the heroes of 9/11\, and discuss the Legacy of the Afghan War for America and the World. \n9/11 Memorial and the Legacy of Afghanistan for the United States and the World\nDr. Kiron K. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of America's Highest Court
DESCRIPTION:Ilya Shapiro\, director of the Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies at the Cato Institute\, will lecture on his latest book\, Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of America’s Highest Court. \nPolitics have always intruded on Supreme Court appointments. But although the Framers would recognize the way justices are nominated and confirmed today\, something is different. Why have appointments to the high court become one of the most explosive features of our system of government? \nAs Ilya Shapiro makes clear in Supreme Disorder\, this problem is part of a larger phenomenon. As government has grown\, its laws reaching even further into our lives\, the courts that interpret those laws have become enormously powerful. If we fight over each new appointment as though everything were at stake\, it’s because it is. \nWhen decades of constitutional corruption have left us subject to an all-powerful tribunal\, passions are sure to flare on the infrequent occasions when the political system has an opportunity to shape it. And so we find the process of judicial appointments verging on dysfunction. \nShapiro weighs the many proposals for reform\, from the modest (term limits) to the radical (court-packing)\, but shows that there can be no quick fix for a judicial system suffering a crisis of legitimacy. And in the end\, the only measure of the Court’s legitimacy that matters is the extent to which it maintains\, or rebalances\, our constitutional order. \nMonday\, April 19\, 2021\n7:00 pm MT – 8:30 pm MT\nWatch here: http://youtube.com/centennialinstitute \n[fusion_title title_type=”text” rotation_effect=”bounceIn” display_time=”1200″ highlight_effect=”circle” loop_animation=”off” highlight_width=”9″ highlight_top_margin=”0″ before_text=”” rotation_text=”” highlight_text=”” after_text=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility\,medium-visibility\,large-visibility” sticky_display=”normal\,sticky” class=”” id=”” content_align_medium=”” content_align_small=”” content_align=”left” size=”1″ font_size=”” animated_font_size=”” fusion_font_family_title_font=”” fusion_font_variant_title_font=”” line_height=”” letter_spacing=”” text_shadow=”no” text_shadow_vertical=”” text_shadow_horizontal=”” text_shadow_blur=”0″ text_shadow_color=”” margin_top_medium=”” margin_bottom_medium=”” margin_top_small=”” margin_bottom_small=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” margin_top_mobile=”” margin_bottom_mobile=”” text_color=”” animated_text_color=”” highlight_color=”” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””] \nAbout Ilya Shapiro \n[/fusion_title] \nIlya Shapiro is the director of the Robert A.
