SUMMARY:Debate: Are Reparations Key to Achieving Racial Reconciliation?
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute and the Intercollegiate Studies Institute as we examine the question of reparation policies in relation to racial reconciliation in the U.S. \nReparations are an issue on the horizon\, with some cities across the country considering reparations to address historical injustices such as slavery. While some believe reparations would be an act of social justice for the descendants of those who suffered as slaves\, others believe that reparations don’t make sense for a variety of reasons\, including that they would imply that Americans today with no affiliation themselves with slavery are guilty of the sins of past generations. \nThe debate will be moderated by Mikayle Scheffel\, Instructor of Communication and Head Coach of the Speech and Debate Team at Colorado Christian University. \nDebate: Are Reparations Key to Achieving Racial Reconciliation?\nMonday\, March 7\, 2022\n7:30pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Hill is a professor of philosophy and Honors Distinguished Faculty at DePaul University in Chicago. He is the author of five books\, including We Have Overcome: An Immigrant’s Letter to the American People and\, more recently: What Do White Americans Owe Black People: Racial Justice in the Age of Post-Oppression. He specializes in ethics\, politics\, foreign policy\, and moral psychology. \nMatthew Walther is editor of The Lamp\, a Catholic literary journal\, a contributing editor at The American Conservative\, and a national correspondent at The Week. His work has also appeared in First Things\, The Spectator of London\, The Catholic Herald\, National Review\, and other publications. He is currently writing a biography of the Rev. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: After Afghanistan: How Just War Theory Helps Make Sense of a Tragedy
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our February Distinguished Lecture Series event featuring Dr. Eric Patterson\, Executive Vice President of the Religious Freedom Institute. \nThe Christian tradition of Just Theory applies Biblical principles to how a nation decides to go to war and how it should fight wars. But\, as Dr. Patterson points out\, the tradition can also inform what happens after a war ends – how one might restore order\, liberty\, and justice after the fighting stops. This lecture will look at the tragic case of post-war Afghanistan\, and what the U.S. could and should do differently next time. \nDistinguished Lecture Series: After Afghanistan: How Just War Theory Helps Make Sense of a Tragedy\nDr. Eric Patterson\nMonday\, February 7\, 2022\n7:30pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Speechless: Controlling Words\, Controlling Minds with Michael Knowles
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our December Distinguished Lecture Series as we hear from Michael Knowles\, Daily Wire contributor and author of the book: Speechless: Controlling Words\, Controlling Minds. This event is hosted in partnership with the Young America’s Foundation. \nOur republic was built upon the ideas of freedom of conscience and free public discourse. However\, over the past few years\, free speech has come under attack. Political correctness\, woke opinions\, and cancel culture silence opposing viewpoints daily. How did we get to this point? And how do we fight to restore our First Amendment rights? \nMichael Knowles will examine how the control over words and ideas leads to direct control on the minds of our fellow citizens. In a time where something you post on social media creates fear of retribution and “cancellation\,” Knowles will discuss how to fight – and win – the war of ideas. \nDistinguished Lecture Series: Speechless: Controlling Words\, Controlling Minds\nMichael Knowles\nMonday\, December 6\, 2021\n7:30pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave\nLakewood\, CO 80226  \nWatch online here. \nIn-person attendance registration is now closed. Walk-up admission will be granted 15 minutes ahead of event start time\, dependent on seating availability. Seating will be on a first-come\, first-served basis. Overflow seating will be available in the Anschutz amphitheater with a livestream feed.  \nWe are following Jefferson County’s recent health mandate which requires masks in all indoor spaces. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. \nAbout Michael Knowles: \nMichael Knowles is the celebrated host of “The Michael Knowles Show” at the Daily Wire\, “The Book Club” at PragerU\, and “Verdict with Ted Cruz.” In 2017\, Michael published the #1 national bestselling treatise Reasons to Vote for Democrats\, which President Donald Trump hailed as “a great book for your reading enjoyment.” In late 2020\, after an appearance guest-hosting “The Rush Limbaugh Program\,” it was announced that Michael’s daily podcast would be syndicated to terrestrial radio. \nMichael has appeared regularly on Fox News Channel and other major networks\, and his writing has been featured on the Daily Wire\, the American Mind\, Fox News\, and the Daily Caller. Michael is a graduate of Yale University and has lectured on college campuses around the country. \nHosted in Partnership with: \n \n

SUMMARY:Pro-Life Rally for Dobbs Supreme Court Case
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University for a rally in support of the Right to Life prevailing in America’s highest court. \nCould 2022 be the year Roe v. Wade is reversed? \nIn 1973\, the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Roe v. Wade shook the foundation of the United States. As abortion was effectively protected throughout the U.S.\, many began the long fight to reclaim the Right to Life\, as guaranteed in America’s founding. Now\, the Supreme Court has chosen yet again to hear an abortion case: Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. \nIn 2018\, the Jackson Women’s Health Organization challenged Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act\, prohibiting abortions after the fifteenth week of pregnancy except in the cases of a medical emergency. The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for Dobbs on December 1\, 2021. If decided in favor of Dobbs\, this would give states the authority to limit abortions\, effectively protecting Mississippi’s legislation and encouraging other states to implement similar policies. \nJoin with faith leaders and pro-life leaders as we rally and pray for this historic case! Now is the time to relegate Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history. \nPro-Life Rally for Dobbs Supreme Court Case\nMonday\, November 29\, 2021\n7:300pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Christianity and Wokeness
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Owen Strachan\, author of Christianity and Wokeness: How the Social Justice Movement is Hijacking the Gospel – and the Way to Stop It\, for our November Distinguished Lecture Series. \nThe “wokeness” that emerged from the social unrest of 2020 has swept through schools\, businesses\, and even sports. Driven by the radical ideologies of Critical Race Theory and intersectionality\, it has destabilized public and private life—including the Church. \nMany evangelicals have joined the crusade. Gripped by a desire for justice and rightly grieved by past evils like slavery\, many pastors are preaching the woke gospel—identifying “whiteness” (an imaginary concept) with “white supremacy\,” calling bewildered Christians to repent of their supposed guilt for the sins of past generations. \nDr. Owen Strachan will discuss how this is not true justice\, nor is it true Christianity. While wokeness employs biblical vocabulary and concepts\, it is an alternative religion\, far from Christianity in both its methods and its fruit. A potent blend of racism\, paganism\, and grievance\, wokeness encourages “partiality” and undermines the unifying work of the Holy Spirit. However\, there is an antidote to this growing threat facing the church: the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. \nDistinguished Lecture Series: Christianity and Wokeness\nDr. Owen Strachan\nMonday\, November 15\, 2021\n7:30pm – 9:00pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226\nRegister below to attend in-person or watch online here. \nAbout Dr. Owen Strachan: \n \nDr. Owen Strachan is Provost and Research Professor of Theology at Grace Bible Theological Seminary in Conway\, Arkansas. He is a Senior Fellow with Family Research Council and the author of numerous books\, including Reenchanting Humanity\, The Pastor as Public Theologian (with Kevin Vanhoozer)\, and Always in God’s Hands: Day by Day in the Company of Jonathan Edwards. Married to Bethany\, he is the father of three children and enjoys rowing\, Western films\, outlaw country\, and Churchill books. \nOnline Form – DL – Jack Posobiec – 10.18.21 – COPY \nPowered by Formstack

SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Antifa: Stories from Inside the Black Bloc
DESCRIPTION:For our October Distinguished Lecture Series\, Jack Posobiec will be discussing his new book The Antifa: Stories from Inside the Black Bloc. \nFew in the media have followed Antifa more closely – and have the scars to prove it – than journalist Jack Posobiec. \nFrom infiltrating their 2016 meetings where they planned their attack on Trump’s inauguration to going undercover in Seattle’s CHAZ in 2020\, Posobiec has never backed down from exposing the true nature of Antifa. \nPosobiec will discuss the secret history of this radical anarchist group while integrating his personal encounters with some of its most hardcore and violent members. While few Americans were aware of Antifa’s existence until recently\, it is actually part of a violent revolutionary tradition that dates back more than a hundred years. And\, like its predecessors\, it is driven by an overriding aim: the overthrow of the existing political order and capitalism\, and replacing it with a communist state. \nAntifa saw and seized its chance in 2020. Because it was not brought to heel – indeed\, was encouraged in its violent mayhem by sympathetic city and state governments – it now looms as a greater threat than ever before. \nDistinguished Lecture Series: The Antifa: Stories from Inside the Black Bloc\nJack Posobiec\nMonday\, October 18\, 2021\n7:00pm – 8:30pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226\nRegister below to attend in-person or watch online here. \nAbout Jack Posobiec: \nJack Posobiec is the Senior Editor of Human Events\, a political news and analysis outlet founded in 1944. Prior to that\, Posobiec served as a Washington\, D.C. correspondent at One America News Network. Posobiec is a veteran intelligence officer of the United States Navy with multiple deployments\, including Guantanamo Bay and East Asia. At Guantanamo Bay\, Posobiec served as a HUMINT (human intelligence) analyst in the interrogation cell. In 2014\, he joined the Office of Naval Intelligence as an officer at the Kennedy Irregular Warfare Center which provided intelligence to Navy Special Warfare and Navy Expeditionary Combat Command. \nPosobiec completed his final deployment in 2016 as the Intelligence Director for Navy Expeditionary Forces Command Pacific – Task Force 75. Task Force 75 provides expeditionary intelligence throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region as directed by 7th Fleet Commander. \nPosobiec has written three non-fiction books: Citizens for Trump: The Inside Story of the People’s Movement to Take Back America; 4D Warfare: A Doctrine for a New Generation of Politics; and Antifa: Inside the Black Bloc. In 2019\, Posobiec was awarded a Lincoln Fellowship by the Claremont Institute. Posobiec is also a supporter of Let Them Live\, a nonprofit that saves lives from abortion by supporting women in crisis pregnancies. Posobiec’s life was the inspiration for the graphic novel ‘Agent Poso’ by Chuck Dixon and Brett Smith. \nAfter graduating from Temple University\, Posobiec spent 2 years in China working in international business and learning to speak fluent Mandarin Chinese. Originally from the Philadelphia area\, Posobiec now resides in Washington\, D.C. with his wife\, Tanya\, and their two sons. \nOnline Form – DL – Jack Posobiec – 10.18.21 \nPowered by Formstack

SUMMARY:20th Anniversary of 9/11 and Legacy of the Afghan War
DESCRIPTION:On September 11\, 2001\, terror unfolded in the sky and came to a devastating end at the World Trade Center\, the Pentagon\, and a field near Shanksville\, PA. That day will forever be etched in the minds of those who witnessed those horrific images as they occurred in real time. In the face of destruction\, American heroism and patriotism united the country to fight terrorism but also to begin the healing process. \nTwenty years later\, the nation is shocked again by headlines about the fall of Afghanistan. Two decades of war and efforts to bring stability and human rights to the Afghans stopped in a matter of days. Thirteen U.S. soldiers were killed during the withdrawal. As Americans come to grips with the horrifying news of the last few weeks\, many question whether the effort was worth the cost. \nJoin the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University for a commemorative service as we remember the lives lost\, honor the heroes of 9/11\, and discuss the Legacy of the Afghan War for America and the World. \n9/11 Memorial and the Legacy of Afghanistan for the United States and the World\nDr. Kiron K. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of America's Highest Court
DESCRIPTION:Ilya Shapiro\, director of the Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies at the Cato Institute\, will lecture on his latest book\, Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of America’s Highest Court. \nPolitics have always intruded on Supreme Court appointments. But although the Framers would recognize the way justices are nominated and confirmed today\, something is different. Why have appointments to the high court become one of the most explosive features of our system of government? \nAs Ilya Shapiro makes clear in Supreme Disorder\, this problem is part of a larger phenomenon. As government has grown\, its laws reaching even further into our lives\, the courts that interpret those laws have become enormously powerful. If we fight over each new appointment as though everything were at stake\, it’s because it is. \nWhen decades of constitutional corruption have left us subject to an all-powerful tribunal\, passions are sure to flare on the infrequent occasions when the political system has an opportunity to shape it. And so we find the process of judicial appointments verging on dysfunction. \nShapiro weighs the many proposals for reform\, from the modest (term limits) to the radical (court-packing)\, but shows that there can be no quick fix for a judicial system suffering a crisis of legitimacy. And in the end\, the only measure of the Court’s legitimacy that matters is the extent to which it maintains\, or rebalances\, our constitutional order. \nMonday\, April 19\, 2021\n7:00 pm MT – 8:30 pm MT\nWatch here: http://youtube.com/centennialinstitute \n[fusion_title title_type=”text” rotation_effect=”bounceIn” display_time=”1200″ highlight_effect=”circle” loop_animation=”off” highlight_width=”9″ highlight_top_margin=”0″ before_text=”” rotation_text=”” highlight_text=”” after_text=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility\,medium-visibility\,large-visibility” sticky_display=”normal\,sticky” class=”” id=”” content_align_medium=”” content_align_small=”” content_align=”left” size=”1″ font_size=”” animated_font_size=”” fusion_font_family_title_font=”” fusion_font_variant_title_font=”” line_height=”” letter_spacing=”” text_shadow=”no” text_shadow_vertical=”” text_shadow_horizontal=”” text_shadow_blur=”0″ text_shadow_color=”” margin_top_medium=”” margin_bottom_medium=”” margin_top_small=”” margin_bottom_small=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” margin_top_mobile=”” margin_bottom_mobile=”” text_color=”” animated_text_color=”” highlight_color=”” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””] \nAbout Ilya Shapiro \n[/fusion_title] \nIlya Shapiro is the director of the Robert A. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters
DESCRIPTION:Join Abigail Shrier\, author of the book Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters\, for our February Distinguished Lecture series. \nUntil just a few years ago\, gender dysphoria—severe discomfort in one’s biological sex—was vanishingly rare. It was typically found in less than .01 percent of the population\, emerged in early childhood\, and afflicted males almost exclusively. \nBut today whole groups of female friends in colleges\, high schools\, and even middle schools across the country are coming out as “transgender.” These are girls who had never experienced any discomfort in their biological sex until they heard a coming-out story from a speaker at a school assembly or discovered the internet community of trans “influencers.” \nUnsuspecting parents are awakening to find their daughters in thrall to hip trans YouTube stars and “gender-affirming” educators and therapists who push life-changing interventions on young girls—including medically unnecessary double mastectomies and puberty blockers that can cause permanent infertility. \nAbigail Shrier\, a writer for the Wall Street Journal\, has dug deep into the trans epidemic\, talking to the girls\, their agonized parents\, and the counselors and doctors who enable gender transitions\, as well as to “detransitioners”—young women who bitterly regret what they have done to themselves. \nComing out as transgender immediately boosts these girls’ social status\, Shrier finds\, but once they take the first steps of transition\, it is not easy to walk back. She offers urgently needed advice about how parents can protect their daughters. \nA generation of girls is at risk. Abigail Shrier’s essential book will help you understand what the trans craze is and how you can inoculate your child against it—or how to retrieve her from this dangerous path. \nMonday\, February 15\, 2021\n7:00pm – 8:30pm MT\nWatch here: https://www.youtube.com/c/CentennialInstituteCCU \nAbout Abigail Shrier\nAbigail Shrier is a writer for the Wall Street Journal. She is a graduate of Columbia College\, where she received the Euretta J. Kellett Fellowship; the University of Oxford; and Yale Law School. She lives in Los Angeles\, CA. \n

SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Ethics of COVID-19 Vaccines
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 vaccine has raised ethical questions. During our January Distinguished Lecture Series\, Dr. Ryan Anderson\, founder and editor in chief of Public Discourse\, explores many of these questions. Is COVID-19 vaccine developed from cell lines derived from an aborted fetus? If so\, should a citizen of conscience who is opposed to abortion avail herself of it to protect herself and her loved ones during this time of pandemic? What are other ethical implications around vaccines? Should governments make vaccinations mandatory? Could businesses refuse service without a vaccine “passport?” Colorado has mandated that a 22-year-old\, healthy\, “frontline journalist” receive the vaccines before a 64-year-old with lung problems. Is this vaccine distribution plan ethical? What is the government’s ethical role in creating\, researching\, informing\, distributing\, and mandating vaccinations? \nDistinguished Lecture Series: Ethics of COVID-19 Vaccines\nDr. Ryan Anderson\nWednesday\, January 13\, 2021\n6:30 pm MT\nWatch: https://www.youtube.com/c/CentennialInstituteCCU  \nAbout Dr. Ryan Anderson \nRyan T. SUMMARY:Online Event: Was Jesus a Socialist?
DESCRIPTION:Economist and historian Lawrence W. Reed has been hearing people say “Jesus was a socialist” for fifty years. And it has always bothered him. \nNow he is doing something about it. \nHis new book demolishes the claim that Jesus was a socialist. Jesus called on earthly governments to redistribute wealth? Or centrally plan the economy? Or even impose a welfare state? \nHardly. \nPoint by point\, Reed answers the claims of socialists and progressives who try to enlist Jesus in their causes. As he reveals\, nothing in the New Testament supports their contentions.\nWas Jesus a Socialist? could not be more timely. Socialism has made a shocking comeback in America. Poll after poll shows that young Americans have a positive image of socialism. In fact\, more than half say they would rather live in a socialist country than in a capitalist one. \nAnd as socialism has come back into vogue\, more and more of its advocates have tried to convince us that Jesus was a socialist. \nThis rhetoric has had an impact. According to a 2016 poll by the Barna Group\, Americans think socialism aligns better with Jesus’s teachings than capitalism does. When respondents were asked which of that year’s presidential candidates aligned closest to Jesus’s teachings\, a self-proclaimed “democratic socialist” came out on top. Sure enough\, the same candidate earned more primary votes from under-thirty voters than did the eventual Democratic and Republican nominees combined. \nAnd in a 2019 survey\, more than 70 percent of millennials said they were likely to vote for a socialist. \nOnline Event: Was Jesus a Socialist?\nWednesday\, September 16\, 2020\n7:00 PM – 8:30 PM MT\nWatch here: https://www.youtube.com/CentennialInstituteCCU \nAbout Lawrence Reed: Lawrence W. Reed is president emeritus of the Foundation of Economic Education (FEE) and the author or editor of several books\, including Excuse Me\, Professor: Challenging the Myths of Progressivism and Real Heroes: Inspiring True Stories of Courage\, Character\, and Conviction (ISI Books). Prior to joining FEE in 2008\, he served for twenty years as president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. He also taught economics full-time for nearly a decade. A frequent guest on radio and television\, Reed has written thousands of articles and delivers dozens of speeches each year. He has received the Alumni Achievement Award from his alma mater\, Grove City College.

SUMMARY:The Sin of Racism and America's Promise of Equality\, Part 2 - Solutions
DESCRIPTION:  \nFollowing an extremely popular and well-received discussion on the sin of racism and America’s promise of equality\, the same panel is back to discuss solutions further. In the weeks since the first discussion\, congress\, states\, and municipalities have introduced legislation to reform policing. What’s right and what’s wrong with this approach? Leftist organizations are seeking to go further in defunding the police\, tearing down statues\, requiring reparations\, and even creating autonomous zones. SUMMARY:The Sin of Racism and America’s Promise of Equality
DESCRIPTION:Colorado Christian University mourns the tragic death and unjust killing of George Floyd. Sadly\, this is not an isolated incident and points to a deeper racism that festers in our land. At the same time\, we also condemn those who seek to exploit the tragedy of this situation by looting\, torching vehicles\, burning buildings\, defacing national monuments and destroying hundreds of businesses. The number of people killed as a result of violent protest represents a disturbing breakdown in the rule of law and cannot be excused as a just response to this incident.\nHow do we seek justice for the black community? SUMMARY:Michael Barone on American Politics 2020
DESCRIPTION:Michael Barone will discuss his latest book\, How America’s Political Parties Change (and How They Don’t). The election of 2016 prompted journalists and political scientists to write obituaries for the Republican Party—or prophecies of a new dominance. But it was all rather familiar. Whenever one of our two great parties has a setback\, we’ve heard: “This is the end of the Democratic Party\,” or\, “The Republican Party is going out of existence.” Yet both survive\, and thrive. \nWe have the oldest and third oldest political parties in the world—the Democratic Party founded in 1832 to reelect Andrew Jackson\, the Republican Party founded in 1854 to oppose slavery in the territories. They are older than almost every American business\, most American colleges\, and many American churches. Both have seemed to face extinction in the past\, and have rebounded to be competitive again. How have they managed it? \nMichael Barone\, longtime co-author of The Almanac of American Politics\, brings a deep understanding of our electoral history to the question and finds a compelling answer. He illuminates how both parties have adapted\, swiftly or haltingly\, to shifting opinion and emerging issues\, to economic change and cultural currents\, to demographic flux. At the same time\, each has maintained a constant character. The Republican Party appeals to “typical Americans” as understood at a given time\, and the Democratic Party represents a coalition of “out-groups.” They are the yin and yang of American political life\, together providing vehicles for expressing most citizens’ views in a nation that has always been culturally\, religiously\, economically\, and ethnically diverse. \nThe election that put Donald Trump in the White House may have appeared to signal a dramatic realignment\, but in fact it involved less change in political allegiances than many before\, and it does not portend doom for either party. How America’s Political Parties Change (and How They Don’t) astutely explains why these two oft-scorned institutions have been so resilient. \nMonday\, April 20\, 2020\n5:00 pm – 6:30 pm MT\nOn YouTube Here: https://www.youtube.com/user/CentennialInstitute/ \n \nAbout Michael Barone \nMichael Barone is an American conservative political analyst\, historian\, pundit and journalist. He is known for being the principal author of The Almanac of American Politics\, a highly detailed reference work on Congress and state politics; it has been published biennially by National Journal since 1972. The Almanac has been called “definitive and essential for anyone writing seriously about campaigns and Congress.” Barone is also a regular commentator on United States elections and political trends for the Fox News Channel. In April 2009\, Barone joined the Washington Examiner\, leaving his position of 18 years at U.S. News & World Report. He is based at the American Enterprise Institute as a resident fellow. He has written numerous books and essays on American political and demographic history.

SUMMARY:The Witness of the Church and the Technology of God
DESCRIPTION:Tertullian once asked\, “What has Athens to do with Jerusalem?” Today we might ask the same question of Silicon Valley. Many in the Church view technological innovation at best as a secular matter\, or at worst as a threat to family and congregational life. But in a broader view\, the spread of the Gospel has always ridden the tides of technological change. What might a theology of technology look like? And how might the Church today adopt and adapt new and emerging technologies in ways that advance the kingdom of God? \nThe Witness of the Church and the Technology of God\nMonday\, December 9\, 2019\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm\nColorado Christian University\nLeprino Hall 170\n8787 W. Alameda Ave. Lakewood\, CO 80226 \nAbout Timothy Dalrymple: \nTimothy Dalrymple is the President and CEO of Christianity Today Magazine and ChristianityToday.com. Founded by Billy Graham\, Christianity Today has been called\, “evangelicalism’s flagship magazine.” \nAfter graduating from Stanford with a double major in philosophy and religious studies\, Tim earned an MDiv at Princeton Theological Seminary and a PhD in modern Western religious thought at Harvard University. Along the way\, he also served in youth ministry\, prison chaplaincy\, and graduate and faculty ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. \nTim’s desire to thoughtfully engage the public square and to find creative ways of sharing the gospel in the new media marketplace found expression after Harvard in his work with the multi-religious website Patheos (2008–2014). First\, he was managing editor of Patheos’s evangelical channel\, then director of content and vice-president of business development. \nIn 2013 Dalrymple founded Polymath\, a creative agency that helps clients with branding\, design\, web\, video\, marketing and communications\, and content development. SUMMARY:In Search of Ancient Roots
DESCRIPTION:Protestant evangelicalism is in crisis. Today it is increasingly difficult for Protestants to identify what counts as distinctively Protestant\, much less what counts as evangelical. As evangelicals increasingly lose contact with the churches and traditions descending from the Reformation\, and as relations with Roman Catholicism continue to thaw\, it becomes harder to explain why one should remain committed to the Reformation in the face of perceived deficits and theological challenges with the Protestant tradition. A common complaint about Protestant evangelicalism is its apparent disconnect from ancient Christianity. The antiquity and catholicity of Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy seem to outshine the relative novelty of the Reformation. Some evangelical churches appear to be uninterested in the ancient historical roots of their faith as well as being liturgically and doctrinally unstable. Many within evangelicalism seem to have accepted at face value the suggestion that the evangelical faith is no more than a threadbare descendant of ancient Christianity. The result is that a number of younger Protestants in recent years have abandoned evangelicalism\, turning instead to practices and traditions that appear more rooted in the early church. In Search of Ancient Roots examines this phenomenon and places it within a wider historical context. Ken Stewart argues that the evangelical tradition in fact has a much healthier track record of interacting with Christian antiquity than it is usually given credit for. He surveys five centuries of Protestant engagement with the ancient church. \nMonday\, November 18\, 2019\n7:00pm – 8:30pm MT\nColorado Christian University\nAnschutz Student Center Great Room\n8787 W. Alameda Ave. Lakewood\, CO 80226 \nAbout Dr. Ken Stewart \nDr. Ken Stewart is a specialist in the history of Christianity from the Reformation to the present with special interest in the development of the evangelical Protestant tradition. SUMMARY:Crucible of Faith
DESCRIPTION:One of America’s foremost scholars of religion examines the tumultuous era that gave birth to the modern Judeo-Christian tradition. In Crucible of Faith\, Philip Jenkins argues that much of the Judeo-Christian tradition we know today was born between 250-50 BCE\, during a turbulent “Crucible Era.” It was during these years that Judaism grappled with Hellenizing forces and produced new religious ideas that reflected and responded to their changing world. By the time of the fall of the Temple in 70 CE\, concepts that might once have seemed bizarre became normalized-and thus passed on to Christianity and later Islam. Drawing widely on contemporary sources from outside the canonical Old and New Testaments\, Jenkins reveals an era of political violence and social upheaval that ultimately gave birth to entirely new ideas about religion\, the afterlife\, Creation and the Fall\, and the nature of God and Satan. \nMonday\, October 14\, 2019\n7:00pm – 8:30pm MT\nColorado Christian University\nAnschutz Student Center Great Room\n8787 W. SUMMARY:America’s Marriage Divide: Why Marriage is Flourishing among the Upper Middle Class and Floundering among Everybody Else
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to family life\, men\, women\, and children in educated and affluent communities are thriving: they enjoy strong and stable families\, low rates of divorce and nonmarital childbearing\, and comparatively high rates of marital quality. By contrast\, working-class and poor families are floundering: divorce is high\, single parenthood is common\, and marital quality is comparatively low. This talk by U.Va. Professor Bradford Wilcox explains why there is a marriage divide in America\, and why it matters that so many children\, men\, and women in poor and working-class communities don’t have access to “The Marital Privilege.” \nTuesday\, April 9\, 2019\n7:00 PM – 8:30 PM MT\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Dr. Charles Murray and the Pulse of American Culture
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Charles Murray has his finger on the pulse of American culture. He argues that what divides America is not race or party but economic class and virtue. \nMurray will be speaking about his book Coming Apart\, what fellow scholar Brad Wilcox called a “sobering portrait of a nation where millions of people are losing touch with the founding virtues that have long lent American lives purpose\, direction and happiness.” \nCome and hear how American culture has evolved even further in the past decade\, and what needs to be done to address our root problems. \n  \nMonday\, February 11\, 2019\n7:00 PM – 8:30 PM\nColorado Christian University\nLeprino Hall 170\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \n\nDr. Charles Murray \nCharles Murray is the F.A. Hayek Emeritus Chair in Cultural Studies at the American Enterprise Institute. A political scientist\, author\, and libertarian\, he first came to national attention in 1984 with the publication of “Losing Ground\,” which has been credited as the intellectual foundation for the Welfare Reform Act of 1996. His 1994 New York Times bestseller “The Bell Curve” (Free Press\, 1994)\, coauthored with the late Richard J. Herrnstein\, sparked heated controversy for its analysis of the role of IQ in shaping America’s class structure. Dr. Murray’s other books include “What It Means to Be a Libertarian” (1997)\, “Human Accomplishment” (2003)\, “In Our Hands” (2006)\, “Real Education” (2008)\, and the New York Times bestseller “Coming Apart” (2012). SUMMARY:Challenges with Government-Run Education
DESCRIPTION:Government-run education in Colorado is facing serious challenges. A record number of Colorado families are choosing homeschool or charter schools. According to U.S. News and World Report\, four out of the top five performing high schools in Colorado are charter schools. Senator Ben Sasse criticized government-run education as an effort to “homogenize” our kids. Faith leader James Dobson said\, “Today\, public schools don’t offer much in the way of values education\, and if they do\, it’s often wrong.” Some even believe what goes on in public schools can be harmful to a student’s development and learning. \nStill\, a vast majority of Coloradans choose government-run education for their children. How does Colorado improve education? What are the hurdles and challenges facing policymakers\, educators\, and parents? Should Colorado take steps to embrace vouchers and provide religious school choice for parents?
