DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our upcoming Last Lecture event with CCU Provost Dr. David Corbin. \nReason has traditionally been an instrument of wisdom and liberty. However\, taken too far\, it quickly becomes an engine of intellectual and political domination. \nIn this last lecture\, Dr. Corbin examines how the quest for certainty and comprehensive knowledge can corrupt reason and reasonableness\, elevating abstract systems over prudence\, tradition\, and human limits. For more information on how to apply for a media credential\, please email centennial@ccu.edu. \nAbout Dr. David Rainbow \n \nDavid Rainbow is a historian of modern Europe and Russia. Originally from California\, Dr. Rainbow came to CCU from Texas\, where he was an Associate Professor of History in the Honors College at the University of Houston. He taught courses on Russian history and literature\, European intellectual history\, and Great Books from antiquity to the 20th century. He received several teaching awards in Houston\, including the University Provost’s Teaching Excellence Award. At CCU\, Dr. Rainbow teaches classes on the history of Europe\, Russia\, the United States\, and Western Civilization. He also teaches in the Augustine Honors Program. \nDr. Rainbow’s research\, which took him to dusty historical archives across Russia and the United States\, relates to the Russian Empire and early Soviet Union (1850-1930). He’s published work on the Russian Revolution and Civil War\, the history of race in Russia and the USSR\, and Siberian regionalism. He holds degrees from New York University (PhD)\, Drew University (MA)\, and Fresno Pacific University (BA)\, and also studied at several Russian universities. His work has been supported by fellowships and grants from Columbia University’s Harriman Institute (postdoc)\, the Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia\, Fulbright\, the U.S. Department of State\, and a few other institutions. \nBefore becoming a professor\, he lived in St. Petersburg\, Russia\, Siberia\, and Germany\, worked for two years on a cattle ranch in North Dakota\, and sailed around the Pacific Rim as an engineer aboard a merchant ship.

For more information on how to apply for a media credential\, please email centennial@ccu.edu. \nAbout Prof. Mark Dorn \n \nMark Dorn is a professor of music at CCU\, where he serves as Director of Instrumental Studies\, conducts the Symphonic Band\, directs the Mainstream jazz ensemble\, and performs regularly on trumpet. Additionally\, he teaches private trumpet and conducting lessons\, supervises music majors in their senior thesis projects\, and oversees “Musical Perspectives\,” the music general education course for the university. In thirty years of touring with CCU ensembles\, he has presented band and jazz concerts in more than 60 cities in 15 states. In 2003\, Dorn was named Faculty Member of the Year at Colorado Christian University\, an honor given by the student body\, and in 2010 he was awarded the Faculty Teaching Excellence award as chosen by fellow professors. Dorn holds memberships in the National Association for Music Education\, the International Trumpet Guild\, the Jazz Education Network\, the College Band Directors National Association\, and the Colorado Bandmasters Association. In 2020\, Dorn was initiated into Phi Beta Mu\, the International Bandmasters Fraternity. \nHe is an active freelance trumpet artist\, respected music educator\, and a clinician in both the jazz and symphonic band world\, with regular guest conducting and directing of honor bands and jazz bands. From 1996 through 2016\, he served each summer as producer of the acclaimed show troupe\, the “KIDS from Wisconsin” the official musical ambassadors for his home state of Wisconsin. \nBeyond the musical and performance aspects of his career\, Dorn has a strong interest in the mentoring and leadership development of young performers and students. Bringing a strong foundation of spiritual formation to his work with people\, he maintains a small counseling practice and personally mentors a handful of students and alumni each year. Dorn holds a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance and a Bachelor in Music Education from Indiana University\, as well as a Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Colorado Christian University. He recently released his first book – Life on the Road: Longing and Pilgrimage on the Way to God – and maintains a blog on topics related to the spiritual journey. Dorn has four adult children and ten grandchildren\, and lives in Morrison\, Colorado with his wife Jill and their young daughter Sophia.

For more information on how to apply for a media credential\, please email centennial@ccu.edu. \nAbout Dr. Ray Mitsch \n \nIn 2005\, after experiencing a devastating accident that left him in perpetual pain\, Dr. Mitsch embarked on a journey into the heart of God\, which led to the realization that God didn’t need him to “accomplish” ministry for Him. Dr. Mitsch was hijacked by the tender\, relentless grace of Jesus that cemented his conviction that God wanted a brutally honest\, authentic relationship with him. This led him into a long desert experience with God that has refined and transformed his relationships with himself\, others\, and his Abba.​ \nHe has authored seven books including his best-selling book\, “Grieving the Loss of Someone You Love\,” selling over 400\,000 copies worldwide. He just released a new book on grief entitled\, “Seasons of our Grief: Embracing the Journey”. He was a charter member of the American Association of Christian Counseling and is a licensed psychologist in Colorado. Ray has been married to Linda for over 45 years and is blessed to have four daughters: Corrie\, Anne\, Abigail\, and Elizabeth and three grandsons\, Greyson\, Desmond and Henry. The Mitsches live in the Denver area. ​
