SUMMARY:Issue Monday: The Border\, Posse Comitatus\, and the Insurrection Act
DESCRIPTION:Join Centennial Institute for a conversation with The Honorable Ken Cuccinelli\, former Acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. \nThe enforcement of immigration law\, predominantly through the mobilization of ICE forces\, has dominated headlines over the past few months. Many claim that this use of federal forces is an abuse of power. However\, this conventional wisdom relies heavily on the notion that the Reconstruction-era posse comitatus law forbids the President from using the military in domestic law enforcement. Hon. Cuccinelli will examine this issue and explain when – and why – this understanding is wrong. \nIssue Monday: The Border\, Posse Comitatus\, and the Insurrection Act\nMonday\, March 16\, 2026\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. For more information on how to apply for a media credential\, please email centennial@ccu.edu. \nAbout The Hon. Ken Cuccinelli \n \nKen Cuccinelli is a Senior Fellow for Homeland Security and Immigration for the Center for Renewing America. Cuccinelli most recently served as Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) and Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) under President Trump. There\, he was key to enforcing President Trump’s top border and immigration priorities. \nFrom 2010-2014\, Cuccinelli served as Attorney General of Virginia\, where he was the first in the country to sue over Obamacare\, and he made critical advances against human trafficking\, health care fraud\, gangs and child exploitation. \nCuccinelli also served as a member of the Virginia State Senate representing the 37th Senatorial district. He ran in Virginia’s gubernatorial race in 2013. \nCuccinelli is a former CNN contributor and regular guest on leading national TV and radio programs. He earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Virginia\, a Juris Doctorate degree from George Mason University School of Law\, and a Masters degree in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University. In 1939\, his world was turned upside down when the Nazi Party took control of Slovakia and introduced laws that segregated and persecuted the Jewish community. At a time when he should have been a carefree child\, he was torn away from his youth and subjected to intense fear. Osi and his parents survived the Holocaust in hiding: first\, with the help of Christian friends and neighbors\, and then\, Osi’s parents made the difficult decision to smuggle him across the border to Hungary to live with relatives. Eventually\, Osi returned to his Czechoslovakia\, where he and his parents went into hiding in the Tatra Mountain range alongside Jewish Partisans. Osi continues to share his story to inspire the next generation to stand up against antisemitism and hate in our communities today.

Through a deep connection to God\, inner discipline\, and gratitude\, he embraced positivity as an act of resistance – strengths that continue to guide his life. Today\, Omer speaks with honesty and purpose\, blending testimony with reflections on resilience\, responsibility\, and mindset. His message is not only about survival\, but about how to live – choosing light\, meaning\, and life again and again.

SUMMARY:Last Lecture Series: Escape Passivity\, Engage Pursuit
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our upcoming Last Lecture event with Dr. Matt Jones\, Associate Professor of New Testament Studies. \nLife is way too precious to spend the time we have been granted to be passive\, apathetic\, indifferent\, and idle. The Triune God not only wants us to experience life but also to seek intentional\, thoughtful\, and active lives. This “Last Lecture” will challenge us to consider three observations about life in the 21st century. Dr. Jones will challenge us to examine whether we are living a life worthy of the gift we have been given. \nLast Lecture Series: Dr. Matt Jones\nMonday\, February 16\, 2026\n12:15 pm – 1:15 pm MT\nArmstrong Center Parlor\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nRegister Now \nMEDIA CREDENTIALING: While members of the media are welcome to attend our events\, they are not allowed inside university buildings or facilities for the purpose of reporting unless they have received prior approval in writing from the Communications and Creative Services Department. For more information on how to apply for a media credential\, please email centennial@ccu.edu. \nAbout Dr. Matt Jones \n \nDr. Matt Jones’ experience as a student at a Christian Liberal Arts institution was transformational for his faith\, life\, and future. Many of those transforming moments occurred as a result of staff and faculty investment in and outside of the classroom. Realizing the roles they had in his life served as an impetus to teach traditional undergraduate students. As a result\, not only does Dr. Jones have the opportunity to teach\, engage\, and learn alongside these students\, but he also has the chance to mentor multiple students through intentional relationships for the sake of Christ. \nJones completed his Ph.D. by examining the humanity of Jesus in Matthew and serves with Summit Ministries as a co-host for the Upside-Down Parenting podcast and faculty-in-residence. When not serving students\, teaching\, or engaging in community and church activities\, he enjoys spending time with his amazing wife\, Cathy\, and his young adult children\, Hannah\, Tyler\, and Mackenzie. If there’s any time remaining\, Dr. Jones likes to run and play golf.

SUMMARY:Faith and Freedom Speaker Series: Christianity and the Spirit of 1776
DESCRIPTION:Join the National Endowment for the Humanities and Centennial Institute for the Faith and Freedom Speaker Series: Christianity and the Spirit of 1776\, featuring Dr. Thomas Kidd. \nThere’s no more controversial historical topic today than the role of faith in the American founding. Most of the myths about religion and the Founding are a result of polemical views of the Founding\, which create selective history. The reality is that religion played an extremely important role in the Founding\, but not because the Founding Fathers were all in accord in their personal beliefs about Jesus and salvation. Dr. Thomas Kidd will examine how\, in the American founding\, many evangelical Christians and small numbers of influential skeptics (and a range of believers in between) united around religious principles that keyed the success of the Revolution\, and helped create America. \nFaith and Freedom Series: Dr. Thomas Kidd\nMonday\, February 9\, 2026\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall; Anschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Truth Rising Documentary Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute and the Colson Center for a screening of the new documentary Truth Rising. Following the screening\, Jack Phillips will join us for a conversation and Q&A session. \nEvery day\, you are bombarded with harmful ideologies and false narratives. As Christians\, it’s hard sometimes to know how to live faithfully in our culture. Maybe you’re afraid to speak up\, confused about what the Bible has to say about today’s cultural topics\, don’t think your voice will make a difference\, or feel the cost of speaking up isn’t worth it. \nIf you can relate\, you’re not alone. Truth Rising – a new documentary presented by Focus on the Family and the Colson Center – shares the stories of ordinary Christians who chose courage over fear. \nWe are living in a civilization that has abandoned truth. Detached from the essential truths that nourished it\, the West will not survive. And every Christian must decide who we will be and how we will live in this civilizational moment. Christians are not victims; we can choose to decline or to act as agents of renewal. \nIn Truth Rising\, John Stonestreet of the Colson Center and renowned author and social critic Os Guinness explore the decline of Western civilization and take an unflinching look at the confusion surrounding today’s most pressing issues. \nPerhaps the most inspirational part of Truth Rising are stories from ordinary Christians who have courageously taken a stand right where God has placed them\, including: \n\nChloe Cole\, detransitioned child protection activist\nJack Phillips\, Owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop\nSeth Dillon\, CEO of The Babylon Bee\nKaty Faust\, Founder of Them Before Us\nWinston Marshall\, former banjoist for Mumford and Sons\nAyaan Hirsi Ali\, founder of AHA Foundation & female human rights activist*\n\nWe are called to this moment. The time for decision is now. How will we live? \n*Ayaan Hirsi Ali will speak at Colorado Christian University on Tuesday\, February 24. SUMMARY:Last Lecture Series: From Abel to Eternity: Finding Our Place in God’s Grand Design
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our upcoming Last Lecture event with Dr. Steve Shumaker\, Professor of Politics at Colorado Christian University. \nWhat do God’s Word\, Great Books\, and political philosophy have to do with each other? More importantly\, what do they have to do with you or me? At first glance they may seem like a rowdy cluster of non sequiturs jostling— if not at significant odds— with each other.  Dr. Shumaker offers his reflections on a lifetime of pursuing their intersection towards a life well lived— and begs to differ! Each can play an essential part in our development within God’s plan to create a people whom He can safely entrust with new heavens and a new earth. \nLast Lecture Series: Dr. Stephen Shumaker\nMonday\, January 26\, 2026\n12:15 pm – 1:15 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall; Anschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Things Considered: How Your Thoughts and Actions Determine Your Destiny
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our upcoming Last Lecture event with Dr. Debora Scheffel. \nIn Prince Caspian\, Aslan tells Lucy that “things never happen the same way twice.” The same can be said in each Christian’s walk with Christ. We may share the same foundation\, but our choices and actions ultimately define our destiny. \nDr. Scheffel’s career has encompassed a variety of positions within both academia and the political sphere. Each of these paths was a result of decisions and actions she took throughout her life in pursuit of the ultimate end: to share the light of Christ in every aspect of her life. Reflecting on her current season in life and lessons she has learned\, Dr. Scheffel will share her insights into what informed the decisions that ultimately determined her path\, and how to put Christ first in everything. \nLast Lecture Series: Dr. Debora Scheffel\nMonday\, November 17\, 2025\n12:15 pm – 1:15 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall; Anschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:The War for Middle-Earth
DESCRIPTION:Join Centennial Institute for an event with notable scholar and author Dr. Joseph Loconte\, as he discusses his new book The War for Middle-Earth. \n \nAmid the catastrophe of the Second World War\, two Oxford scholars and friends wrote epic fantasies—not as an escape from the conflict but as a powerful weapon to defend the dignity and worth of every human soul. The War for Middle-Earth: J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Confront the Gathering Storm\, 1933–1945\, by New York Times bestselling author Joseph Loconte\, reveals how Tolkien and Lewis used their imagination to battle the political ideologies that threatened to destroy Western civilization. \nLoconte traces how these combat veterans of the First World War responded to the rise of fascism\, Nazism\, communism\, and totalitarianism—not with cynicism and despair\, but with moral clarity and moral courage. In both their scholarship and their works of fiction\, they offered a bracing vision of the human story: a recovery of ancient truths and virtues to light a path through the gathering darkness of their age. \nThe War for Middle-Earth\nThursday\, November 13\, 2025\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall\nAnschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Issue Forum: The Virtue of Color-Blindness and the Classics
DESCRIPTION:Join Centennial Institute for a conversation with Dr. Andre Archie\, associate professor of ancient Greek philosophy at Colorado State University\, on how the classical tradition might help defeat identity politics. \nDr. Archie’s approach to race relations – the color-blind approach – is grounded on the moral belief that the mere possession of hereditary qualities\, like race\, should not confer moral merit by their possession or nonpossession. Instead\, moral merit can be\, and should be\, conferred upon an individual’s actions\, because actions reveal one’s character. The belief in character\, as opposed to ascriptive qualities\, as the locus of moral agency has a rich and comprehensive history in the West\, and it continues to animate our own Founding documents and way of life. \nIssue Forum: The Virtue of Color-Blindness and the Classics\nThursday\, November 13\, 2025\n12:15 pm – 1:15 pm MT\nArmstrong Center Parlor\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. He specializes in the History of Ancient Greek Philosophy and Ancient Greek Political Philosophy. His latest research focuses on methodological issues in Plato and Aristotle. Andre has published in various academic journals such as the Journal of Philosophical Research\, Ancient Philosophy\, History of Political Thought\, and Scholia. He is the author of Politics in Socrates’ Alcibiades: A Philosophical Account of Plato’s Dialogue Alcibiades Major (Springer 2015). \nAndre’s scholarship also highlights the value of Classical Studies and how it can provide a much-needed perspective on topical issues that often get discussed glibly by today’s educators. Such issues are identity politics\, race\, family\, and culture. Andre’s engagement with classical antiquity wholeheartedly affirms its positive and civilizing values. His writings in these areas have appeared in National Review\, The American Conservative\, and Modern Age. \nWhen not teaching and writing\, Andre enjoys traveling\, the occasional ski weekend with his family\, long walks with his wife\, and reading good books. His latest book is The Virtue of Color-Blindness. \n

SUMMARY:Issue Monday: Democracy\, Faith\, and Fiction: Why We Still Need the Novel
DESCRIPTION:Join Centennial Institute for a special conversation with Dr. Christopher J. Scalia\, senior fellow in the Social\, Cultural\, and Constitutional Studies department at the American Enterprise Institute and son of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia\, about his new book\, 13 Novels Conservatives Will Love (but Probably Haven’t Read). \nIn an age of endless digital distractions like streaming services\, social media\, and video games—not to mention the rise of artificial intelligence—it’s no surprise that Americans are reading less and less fiction. SUMMARY:Issue Monday: The Assault on Religious Liberty\, Free Speech\, and Parental Rights in Colorado
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for a critical Issue Monday event exploring the growing threats to core constitutional freedoms in Colorado. \nAs Colorado faces a third visit to the U.S. Supreme Court in seven years for violating conscience rights in Chiles v. Our expert panel will examine recent and troubling developments\, including the Elizabeth School District controversy over the removal of inappropriate books\, state pressure on Camp IdRaHaJe to compromise its religious mission\, and the increasing trend of school administrators facilitating gender transitions without parental consent. This timely conversation will highlight the importance of protecting religious liberty\, free speech\, and parental rights in the face of mounting government overreach. \nThis event will not be available for livestreaming; we apologize for any inconvenience. \nIssue Monday: The Assault on Religious Liberty\, Free Speech\, and Parental Rights in Colorado\nMonday\, October 13\, 2025\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall\nAnschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our upcoming Last Lecture event with Dr. David Kotter\, Dean of the School of Theology and Professor of New Testament Studies at Colorado Christian University. \nIn his lecture\, Dr. Kotter distills a lifetime of lessons into one essential truth: our lives on earth are but a dot\, while eternity stretches as a line without end. SUMMARY:Centennial Impact Summit: Theology\, Technology\, and Anthropology
DESCRIPTION:Centennial Impact Summit 2025\nSeptember 26-27\, 2025 at Colorado Christian University\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the inaugural Centennial Impact Summit! \nAmerican culture has experienced a seismic social change in recent decades. From fertility and mortality\, sex and gender\, work and leisure\, and more\, conservative and Christian values have eroded so rapidly as to have become almost unintelligible. While most analyses of this shift have focused on the roles played by politics\, history\, and religion\, few have examined the role of technology in reshaping the American Christian’s understanding of morality\, the world\, and oneself. \nWe are now faced with a societal dilemma: The more our reliance on technology grows\, the more dehumanized we become. How are we to be the embodiment of Christ to our communities? What is the proper view of personhood\, society\, and politics that will lead to human flourishing? This Summit will provide a forum for Christians to take a closer look at how the Church can Reclaim Embodiment in a Brave New World. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Issue Monday - Bitcoin: The Most Consequential Innovation of our Time
DESCRIPTION:Since the creation of Bitcoin in 2008\, developments in cryptocurrency have quickly dominated conversations on the future of both the U.S. and global economies. What exactly is Bitcoin? How does it work? How do these cryptocurrencies impact commerce? For many business and political leaders\, these questions will determine the future of economic interests well into the 21st century and beyond. \nJoin the Centennial Institute for a conversation with Tim McTavish as he explains what Bitcoin is and why it is the most consequential innovation of our time\, leading to the promotion of economic freedom both in the United States and abroad. \nIssue Monday Bitcoin: The Most Consequential Innovation of our Time\nMonday\, April 14\, 2025\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm MT\nLeprino Hall Room 170/172\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Last Lecture Series: Christian Nationalism - Good or Bad?
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute for our upcoming Last Lecture event with Dr. John Wind\, CCU Associate Professor of Theology. \nThis talk considers the questions: What should the role of Christians be in the American public square? Are we a Christian nation? How should Christians promote human flourishing in our society and culture? Dr. Wind will examine these questions and share his insights into how Christians should engage with politics. \nLast Lecture Series: Christian Nationalism – Good or Bad?\nDr. John Wind\nMonday\, April 14\, 2025\n12:15 pm – 1:15 pm MT\nFran & Larry Donnithorne Great Hall; Anschutz Student Center\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nRegister Now \nAbout Dr. John Wind: \nDr. John Wind has been married to his sweet bride\, Rachel\, since 1996\, and the Lord has blessed them with five children. Before coming to CCU\, he served with his family in China for eight years. Earlier in life\, Dr. Wind became a Christian while attending a non-Christian university and then\, when later finishing his degree at a Christian college\, was profoundly impacted by godly and wise professors. Dr. Wind now wants to help establish college students upon Christ through the written revelation of Scripture\, even as God similarly used college professors in his own life. Dr. Wind is also passionate about encouraging college students to commit to the local church and he is actively involved in leadership at Calvary Lakewood\, a local church plant.
