But it was all rather familiar. Whenever one of our two great parties has a setback\, we’ve heard: “This is the end of the Democratic Party\,” or\, “The Republican Party is going out of existence.” Yet both survive\, and thrive. \nWe have the oldest and third oldest political parties in the world—the Democratic Party founded in 1832 to reelect Andrew Jackson\, the Republican Party founded in 1854 to oppose slavery in the territories. They are older than almost every American business\, most American colleges\, and many American churches. Both have seemed to face extinction in the past\, and have rebounded to be competitive again. How have they managed it? \nMichael Barone\, longtime co-author of The Almanac of American Politics\, brings a deep understanding of our electoral history to the question and finds a compelling answer. He illuminates how both parties have adapted\, swiftly or haltingly\, to shifting opinion and emerging issues\, to economic change and cultural currents\, to demographic flux. DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute\, Dr. Mark Parker\, Dean and Professor of Biology at Colorado Christian University (CCU)\, and Dr. Damon Perez\, Assistant Professor of Biology in CCU’s College of Adult & Graduate Studies\, to learn about the biology of COVID-19. Dr. Parker has his B.S. in Microbiology and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. Dr. Perez has his B.A. in Biology\, Ph.D. in Environmental Health – Toxicology\, and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Mayo Clinic Cancer Genetic and Epidemiology Program. They will answer questions on the history of coronavirus\, how it spreads\, its impact on the body\, the current medical responses\, and\, most importantly\, how science can defeat it. \n\nWatch on YouTube\n\nAbout Dr. Mark Parker\nDr. Parker trained as a developmental biologist and neuroscientist in preparation for working in academic research\, where he studied the development of the vertebrate nervous system. From there\, he transitioned into the biotech industry where he served as a director of the technical service department\, oversaw both internal production and external production\, and directed a research and development team. He has always had a passion for teaching and was blessed to join the CCU faculty in 2011 as an associate professor of biology. Most recently\, Dr. Parker has been integral in revamping the curriculum and increasing the enrollment in CCU’s Science program\, developing the new Industrial and Systems Engineering program\, and launching the newly formed School of Science and Engineering. His wife is a cardiovascular registered nurse pursing her nurse practitioner degree. Together they have three sons. \n\nAbout Dr. Damon Perez\nDr. Damon S. Perez is an Associate Professor of Biology in CCU’s College of Adult & Graduate Studies. He is the Director of Biological Sciences and oversees all biology courses in the School of Nursing and Health Professions. Dr. Perez currently teaches both Environmental Science and Human Genetics & Genomics online to predominantly prospective nursing students. DESCRIPTION:Protestant evangelicalism is in crisis. Today it is increasingly difficult for Protestants to identify what counts as distinctively Protestant\, much less what counts as evangelical. As evangelicals increasingly lose contact with the churches and traditions descending from the Reformation\, and as relations with Roman Catholicism continue to thaw\, it becomes harder to explain why one should remain committed to the Reformation in the face of perceived deficits and theological challenges with the Protestant tradition. A common complaint about Protestant evangelicalism is its apparent disconnect from ancient Christianity. The antiquity and catholicity of Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy seem to outshine the relative novelty of the Reformation. Some evangelical churches appear to be uninterested in the ancient historical roots of their faith as well as being liturgically and doctrinally unstable. Many within evangelicalism seem to have accepted at face value the suggestion that the evangelical faith is no more than a threadbare descendant of ancient Christianity. The result is that a number of younger Protestants in recent years have abandoned evangelicalism\, turning instead to practices and traditions that appear more rooted in the early church. In Search of Ancient Roots examines this phenomenon and places it within a wider historical context. Ken Stewart argues that the evangelical tradition in fact has a much healthier track record of interacting with Christian antiquity than it is usually given credit for.
