SUMMARY:Justice for Jack Rally
DESCRIPTION:Do you support religious and artistic freedom?\nBring your family and friends and join us outside the Colorado Civil Rights Commission to support Lakewood cake artist Jack Phillips\, whom the State of Colorado is targeting yet again. \nWho is Jack and what happened?\nJack Phillips\, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop\, is facing another round of harassment for simply running his business according to his faith. After Jack defended himself all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and won\, he thought Colorado’s hostility toward his faith was over. He was wrong. Colorado doubled-down on its hostility toward Jack’s religious beliefs by deciding to target him again for living out his faith\, this time for politely declining a request to create a custom cake celebrating a gender transition from male to female. \nDidn’t Jack just win at the U.S. Supreme Court? Yes! The Court ruled 7-2\, finding that Colorado wrongly prevented Jack from living out his faith in the marketplace. \nWhat’s at Stake? The First Amendment promises that every American is free to peacefully live and work consistently with their beliefs. Jack is simply asking that these cherished freedoms be preserved—not only for him but also for others. \nWhen:\nFriday\, September 28\, 2018\n9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. \nWhere:\nThe Colorado Civil Rights Commission\n1560 Broadway Denver\, CO 80202\nFront of Building \nOnline Form – Jack Phillips Rally \nPowered by Formstack

SUMMARY:The Uniqueness of the American Constitution in Advancing Religious Freedom
DESCRIPTION:Just in time for Constitution Day\, join us for an important evening exploring religious freedom and its protections found in the First Amendment. \nReligious freedom\, uniquely protected by the U.S. Constitution\, is facing a barrage of challenges.
For example\, Jack Phillips is once again facing charges of discrimination by the Colorado Civil Rights Commission because of his commitment to his faith. \nHow was religious freedom developed in America? How do the threats against religious freedom affect all Americans\, not just Christians? How can we balance public accommodation laws and the First Amendment? How has our understanding of freedom changed in America? How can we run our businesses according to our own beliefs without suing each other to death? \nJoin our talented lineup of legal and public policy experts as we explore religious freedom and the First Amendment. \nSpeakers: \n\nEric Baxter\, Vice President and Senior Counsel for Becket Law\nBrenna Grasz\, Colorado Christian University graduate and law student at the University of Nebraska\nEric Hall\, Partner\, Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP\nDr. Stephen Shumaker\, Professor of Politics\, Colorado Christian University\nDr. Kyle Usrey\, Vice President of Academic Affairs in the College of Undergraduate Studies at Colorado Christian University\n\nMonday\, September 10\, 2018\n7:00-8:30pm\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. SUMMARY:When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment
DESCRIPTION:The transgender movement has hit breakneck speed. In the space of a year\, it’s gone from something that most Americans had never heard of to a cause claiming the mantle of civil rights. \nBut can a boy truly be “trapped” in a girl’s body? Can modern medicine really “reassign” sex? Is sex something “assigned” in the first place? What’s the loving response to a friend or child experiencing a gender-identity conflict? What should our law say on these issues? \nDr. Ryan T. Anderson will provide thoughtful answers to these questions and more as he presents his latest book\, When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment. Drawing on the best insights from biology\, psychology\, and philosophy\, Ryan T. Anderson offers a balanced approach to the policy issues\, a nuanced vision of human embodiment\, and a sober and honest survey of the human costs of getting human nature wrong. \nHe reveals a grim contrast between the media’s sunny depiction and the often sad realities of gender-identity struggles. He introduces listeners to people who tried to “transition” but found themselves no better off. Especially troubling is the suffering felt by adults who were encouraged to transition as children but later came to regret it. \nAnd there is a reason that many do regret it. As Anderson shows\, the most helpful therapies focus not on achieving the impossible—changing bodies to conform to thoughts and feelings—but on helping people accept and even embrace the truth about their bodies and reality. This discussion will be of particular interest to parents who fear how an ideological school counselor might try to steer their child. The best evidence shows that the vast majority of children naturally grow out of any gender-conflicted phase. But no one knows how new school policies might affect children indoctrinated to believe that they really are trapped in the “wrong” body. \nThroughout his new book\, Anderson highlights the various contradictions at the heart of this moment: How it embraces the gnostic idea that the real self is something other than the body\, while also embracing the idea that nothing but the physical exists. How it relies on rigid sex stereotypes—in which dolls are for girls and trucks are for boys—while also insisting that gender is purely a social construct\, and that there are no meaningful differences between women and men. How it assumes that feelings of identity deserve absolute respect\, while the facts of our embodiment do not. How it preaches that people should be free to do as they please and define their own truth—while enforcing a ruthless campaign to coerce anyone who dares to dissent. \nEveryone has something at stake in today’s debates about gender identity. Analyzing education and employment policies\, Obama-era bathroom and locker-room mandates\, politically correct speech codes and religious-freedom violations\, Anderson shows how the law is being used to coerce and penalize those who believe the truth about human nature. And he shows how Americans can begin to push back with principle and prudence\, compassion and grace. \nMonday\, April 9\, 2018\n7:00 pm – 8:30 pm\nColorado Christian University\nLeprino Hall 170\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Race Relations in America
DESCRIPTION:According to Gallup\, race relations are far lower today than they were in the early 2000s. In fact\, race relations hit an all-time low in 2015. How do we understand what is happening to race relations in America? How do we navigate these complexities and remain united as Americans? How does the public square engage with the messages from groups like Black Lives Matter and the Alt-Right? \nDr. Carol Swain\, author of the books: The New White Nationalism in America\, Race Versus Class\, and Black Faces\, Black Interests\, will help explore these important issues. \nA black conservative\, Dr. Swain has been unfairly smeared by the liberal Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as an “apologist for white supremacists.” \nFrom high school dropout and teenage mother to highly accomplished university professor and public intellectual\, Dr. Carol M. Swain is passionate about empowering others to confidently raise their voices in the public square. Dr. Swain’s education and experiences make her a credible and powerful force for change in today’s social and political climate where conservatives are intimidated to champion an often-unpopular message. \nMonday\, December 4\, 2017\n7:00pm – 8:30pm\nColorado Christian University\nLeprino Hall 170\n180 S.
