SUMMARY:Women 21: Luncheon with Cal Thomas
DESCRIPTION:Women are playing an ever-larger role in politics in America. They are running for office\, donating to campaigns\, and driving the political discourse. \nBut how are they getting their news and information? Many seek out the truth from reliable and respected sources. Sadly\, however\, they accept at face value what is presented to them through the mainstream media. \nWomen 21\, the women’s group at Centennial Institute\, continues our luncheon series with nationally acclaimed syndicated columnist\, pundit\, and author\, Cal Thomas. \nBacked by a prolific writing and broadcasting career\, Cal understands the media’s role in today’s political landscape. He has joined media outelts including NBC\, CNBC\, Fox News\, and USA Today. His sharp wit and dynamic speaking style challenge audiences on his daily radio commentary and in person on current political issues. \nYou will also have the opportunity to gather with friends and meet other women who share your passion for this country and commitment to get us back on the right track. This promises to be an outstanding event! \nThe luncheon is $35 per person\, which includes salad\, entrée\, and a beverage. \n[fusion_button link=”https://ccu.brushfire.com/events/439227″ target=”_blank” alignment=”center” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility\,medium-visibility\,large-visibility” color=”custom” button_gradient_top_color=”#679275″ button_gradient_bottom_color=”#679275″ button_gradient_top_color_hover=”#679275″ button_gradient_bottom_color_hover=”#679275″ accent_color=”#ffffff” accent_hover_color=”#ffffff” type=”flat” size=”large” stretch=”default” shape=”square” icon_position=”left” icon_divider=”no” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”1.0″]Get Tickets[/fusion_button]

SUMMARY:The Closing of the Liberal Mind: How Groupthink and Intolerance Define the Left
DESCRIPTION:Colorado Christian University is hosting Dr. Kim Holmes on campus for the September President’s Lecture Series. Dr. Holmes will speak on his recent book\, The Closing of the Liberal Mind: How Groupthink and Intolerance Define the Left. \nIn his book\, Holmes surveys the state of liberalism in America today and finds that it is becoming its opposite — abandoning the precepts of open-mindedness and respect for individual rights\, liberties\, and the rule of law upon which the country was founded\, and becoming instead an intolerant\, rigidly dogmatic ideology that abhors dissent and stifles free speech. \nThis event is open to the public and is in partnership with the Centennial Institute’s Distinguished Lecture Series. \n<a href=”https://www.formstack.com/forms/?2805574-Ls5mHs3gx1″ title=”Online Form”>Online Form – CI – DLC – September 17 – Holmes</a> \nHTML Form Generator\n \nAbout Dr. Kim Holmes: \nDr. Holmes is an author and American Diplomat. Holmes is a former U.S. assistant secretary of state and former vice president for research at The Heritage Foundation. Recognized around the globe as one of Washington’s foremost foreign and defense policy experts\, Holmes is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations\, where he formerly served on the Washington Advisory Committee. As a historian of U.S. political movements and ideology\, Holmes writes about America’s place in the world and the changing political landscape. \nHis latest book\, The Closing of the Liberal Mind (Encounter\, April 2016)\, reveals how liberals in America are turning their backs on their traditions and have become a force for “illiberalism”— namely\, denying their fellow Americans’ rights and freedoms. \nOther published works include Rebound: Getting America Back to Great (2013) and Liberty’s Best Hope: American Leadership for the 21st Century (2008). He has an M.A. and a Ph.D. in history from Georgetown University with a focus on European and American history. He is a founding editor of the annual Heritage/Wall Street Journal Index of Economic Freedom.

SUMMARY:Debate on religious liberty in the public square
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an important debate on religious liberty in the public square. What does it mean to balance the separation of church and state? How does religious freedom interact with public accommodation laws? These issues are becoming more prevalent as people of faith encounter more aggressive government overreach. Consider the recent Hobby Lobby and Little Sisters of the Poor cases\, Christian bakers fined for refusing to participate in gay wedding ceremonies\, Christian colleges targeted because of their lifestyle expectations. The list goes on and on. \nThis debate will feature Dr. Alex McFarland of American Family Radio with Theresa Lynn Sidebotham\, Esq.\, founder of Telios Law PLLC\, against Michael L. “Mikey” Weinstein\, founder and president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) with Scott Moss\, Esq.\, who teaches and conducts research at the University of Colorado Law School. \nThe event is sponsored by the Colorado Fireline Coalition and will be moderated by Dan Caplis\, morning radio host for KNUS 710 News/Talk. \nTuesday\, April 11\, 2017\n7:00 pm – 9:00 pm\nColorado Christian University Event Center\n8787 W. Alameda Ave. Lakewood\, CO 80226 \n \nAbout the Speakers \nBesides being one of the country’s foremost apologists\, Alex McFarland also hosts the American Family Radio Network’s “Exploring the Word” and the weekly television program “Viral Truth” on the National Religious Broadcasters Network. He has authored 18 books\, including “Stand Strong America\,” “The God You Thought You Knew\,” “The 21 Toughest Questions Your Kids Will Ask about Christianity\,” “10 Issues that Divide Christians\,” “10 Questions Every Christian Must Answer\,” “10 Answers for Skeptics\,” “10 Answers for Atheists” and many more. He also serves as Director for Christian Worldview and Apologetics at the Christian Worldview Center of North Greenville University in Greenville\, S.C.\, has spoken in all 50 states\, has been interviewed by top Christian and secular media outlets\, and has spent decades training teens and adults in biblical worldview reasoning. His writing\, training and conferences in apologetics—the practice of defending the Christian faith in a world where faith in Christ has declined in the current cultural environment—continues to help numerous young people to find salvation in Jesus Christ. \nThrough Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF)\, Mikey Weinstein\, Esq.\, works toward the separation of church and state in the armed forces. Weinstein spent three years working for the Reagan administration as legal counsel\, and served as the first General Counsel to Texas billionaire and presidential candidate H.
Ross Perot and Perot Systems Corporation. Weinstein has appeared on many cable\, television and radio networks\, and his activism has been covered in print media including the Associated Press\, The New York Times\, Washington Post\, Los Angeles Times\, Denver Post\, The Guardian\, and many other national and international newspapers and periodicals. SUMMARY:Ken Buck: Drain the Swamp
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an important evening to hear from Congressman Ken Buck about his new book\, Drain the Swamp. \nLavish parties. Committee chairmanships for sale. Pay-to-play corruption. Backroom arm-twisting. Votes on major legislation going to the highest bidder. Welcome to Washington\, D.C.\, the swamp that President Donald Trump was elected to drain. \nCongressman Ken Buck is blowing the whistle on the real-life House of Cards in our nation’s capital. Elected in 2014 as president of one of the largest Republican freshman classes ever to enter Congress\, Buck immediately realized why nothing gets done in Congress\, and it isn’t because of political gridlock—in fact\, Republicans and Democrats work together all too well to fleece taxpayers and plunge America deeper into debt. \n“It is an insular process directed by power-hungry party elites who live like kings and govern like bullies\,” Buck reports. \nBuck has witnessed first-hand how the unwritten rules of Congress continually prioritize short-term political gain over lasting\, principled leadership. When Buck tangled with Washington power brokers like former Speaker John Boehner\, he faced petty retaliation. When he insisted Republicans keep their word to voters\, he was berated on the House floor by his own party leaders. When other members of Congress dared to do what they believed to be right for America instead of what the party bosses commanded\, Buck saw them stripped of committee positions and even denied dining room privileges by the petty beltway bullies. \nIn Drain the Swamp\, Buck names names and tells incredible true stories about what really happened behind closed doors in Congress during legislative battles that have ensued over the last two years including budget\, continuing resolutions\, omnibus\, trade promotion authority\, Iran\, and more. If the Trump administration is going to bring real change to Washington\, it first needs to get the whole story—from deep inside the swamp. \nApril 10\, 2017\n7:00pm-8:30pm\nColorado Christian University\n180 S. He is also a member of the Judiciary Subcommittees on Immigration and Border Security and Crime\, Terrorism\, Homeland Security and Investigations. He is rated by Heritage Action as the most conservative member of congress. \nOne of three brothers\, Ken worked his way through high school\, college\, and law school as a janitor\, truck driver\, furniture mover\, and a ranch hand. After law school\, Ken worked for Dick Cheney on the Iran-Contra Investigation and then became a prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice. He has also served as a District Attorney in Weld County\, Colorado and as a business executive at the Hensel Phelps Construction Company.

SUMMARY:From Transgenderism to the Abolition of Man: Our Posthuman Future
DESCRIPTION:While much has recently been made of movements such as those for gay marriage and transgenderism and their impact on society\, church and family\, they are in fact only the warning signs of a much larger agenda\, namely the redefinition of humanity itself. This talk will introduce listeners to new movements coming out of universities\, think tanks and alternative spirituality groups which question our basic understanding of what it means to be human. In its place they are proposing a vision which would radically alter not only basic social norms\, but also laws\, technology and even biology itself. Some of the issues posthumanism raises include: “human rights” for animals and machines\, biologically merging humans with other species\, and recognized romantic relationships between humans and nonhuman entities. SUMMARY:Faith in the Spotlight
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be a Christian in the media spotlight? How can you stay committed to your faith in a secular career? Megan Alexander of Inside Edition and the NFL on CBS joins Al and Lisa Robertson of Duck Dynasty for an important conversation on practicing your faith in the media industry. \nWednesday\, October 19\, 2016\n4:00pm – 6:00pm\n180 S. Garrison St \nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nMegan Alexander has successfully built a career in the competitive television industry without compromising her faith and values. SUMMARY:The Convention of States Project
DESCRIPTION:The federal government has overreached its constitutionally-established boundaries. Is there a solution beyond the November election? \nJoin us for an information session on a proposed solution: The Convention of States Project\, which seeks to utilize Article V of the United States Constitution and call a Convention of States to restrict the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. \nMichael Farris\, renowned constitutional attorney\, will discuss what a Convention of States is within the context of the U.S. Constitution\, how the Founders originally envisioned States’ ability to be the check on the federal government\, and what you should be aware of to make an in-formed decision on the Article V issue. Chris Murray\, Denver attorney and litigator\, and a CCU faculty panel will engage Dr. Farris with questions and concerns generally raised opposed to a Convention of States solution. \nMichael Farris\, co-founder of the Convention of States Project. Farris is the Chancellor of Patrick Henry College and Chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association. He was the founding president of each organization. During his career as a constitutional appellate litigator\, he has served as lead counsel in the United States Supreme Court\, eight federal circuit courts\, and the appellate courts of thirteen states. Farris has been a leader on Capitol Hill for over thirty years and is widely respected for his leadership in the defense of homeschooling\, religious freedom\, and the preservation of American sovereignty. \nChris Murray\, attorney and shareholder at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck\, LLP. He was formerly Deputy General Counsel for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign and as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Timothy M. Tymkovich of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Murray is a litigator with a unique combination of experience in commercial\, political and public law matters. \nThursday\, October 13\, 2016\n 7:00-8:30pm\n Colorado Christian University\, Leprino Hall 170\n 180 S. Garrison St. Lakewood\, CO 80026 \nAttendees must RSVP. \nOnline Form – CI – Convention of States – October 2016 \nOnline Form Builder
