SUMMARY:Faith in the Spotlight
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be a Christian in the media spotlight? How can you stay committed to your faith in a secular career? Megan Alexander of Inside Edition and the NFL on CBS joins Al and Lisa Robertson of Duck Dynasty for an important conversation on practicing your faith in the media industry. \nWednesday\, October 19\, 2016\n4:00pm – 6:00pm\n180 S. Garrison St \nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nMegan Alexander has successfully built a career in the competitive television industry without compromising her faith and values. But while she has experienced the triumphs of that dynamic entertainment lifestyle\, she knows how difficult it can be for Christian women to get ahead in their careers and simultaneously navigate their roles at home and in their faith. She offers a fresh and millennial-centered perspective on how to build a successful career while raising a family. \nAlan Robertson grew up hunting\, fishing\, and helping build the family business in the 1970s and ’80s. Alan left Duck Commander when he received the call for ministry in 1988 and served as a senior pastor in West Monroe\, Lousiana\, until 2012\, when he rejoined the Duck Commander clan. \n  \nLisa Robertson is the wife of Alan Robertson and worked with him at the church in several different ministries before joining him back at Duck Commander. She is a committed mother and grandmother and guides her family in the ways of faith. \n  \n  \nRSVP Below: \nOnline Form – CI – Faith in the Spotlight \nContact Form Generator

Is there a solution beyond the November election? \nJoin us for an information session on a proposed solution: The Convention of States Project\, which seeks to utilize Article V of the United States Constitution and call a Convention of States to restrict the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. \nMichael Farris\, renowned constitutional attorney\, will discuss what a Convention of States is within the context of the U.S. Constitution\, how the Founders originally envisioned States’ ability to be the check on the federal government\, and what you should be aware of to make an in-formed decision on the Article V issue. Chris Murray\, Denver attorney and litigator\, and a CCU faculty panel will engage Dr. Farris with questions and concerns generally raised opposed to a Convention of States solution. \nMichael Farris\, co-founder of the Convention of States Project. Farris is the Chancellor of Patrick Henry College and Chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association. He was the founding president of each organization. During his career as a constitutional appellate litigator\, he has served as lead counsel in the United States Supreme Court\, eight federal circuit courts\, and the appellate courts of thirteen states. Farris has been a leader on Capitol Hill for over thirty years and is widely respected for his leadership in the defense of homeschooling\, religious freedom\, and the preservation of American sovereignty. \nChris Murray\, attorney and shareholder at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck\, LLP. He was formerly Deputy General Counsel for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign and as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Timothy M. Tymkovich of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Murray is a litigator with a unique combination of experience in commercial\, political and public law matters. \nThursday\, October 13\, 2016\n 7:00-8:30pm\n Colorado Christian University\, Leprino Hall 170\n 180 S. SUMMARY:Issue Monday - The U.S.-China Relationship: The Unfolding Strategic Competition?
DESCRIPTION:Randall Schriver meets with Ma Ying-jeou\, former President of the Republic of China. \nJoin us for a public briefing about the U.S.-China relationship and the unfolding strategic competition with the former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. \nThe United States and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) may have arrived at an inflection point in the bilateral relationship. While some analysts continue to believe a cooperative relationship is possible\, and that the U.S. and the PRC can form a G-2 type partnership to tackle a range of global challenges\, an increasing number of analyst see a very different trajectory. China’s assertive behavior and confrontational rhetoric suggest we are the leading edge in what will be a long and intense strategic competition for dominance over the Pacific Rim. While American strategists Andrew Marshall\, Robert Kaplan\, and Aaron Friedberg each began foretelling of this great power struggle over a decade ago\, recent events seem to underscore this view. In February 2016\, the U.S. Secretary of Defense\, Ashton Carter\, announced that great power competition has reemerged as the Pentagon’s top priority\, and he expects it will define the next 25 years. Later in the month\, the Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command\, Admiral Harry Harris\, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that China seeks hegemony in East Asia. \nAre the U.S. and China destined for strategic competition? Can the relationship be managed to ensure the competition is benign\, doesn’t result in military conflict\, and allows for cooperation to exist where our interests align? Can robust trade and economic ties be sustained in an environment of growing rivalry? What are the key policy choices U.S. decision makers must make to shape the relationship toward its optimal state? Wise and prudent stewardship of a variety of challenges simultaneously will be required for there to be sustained peace and stability.
This discussion will examine the current environment and will explore what policy approaches should be adopted by Washington. \nAbout Randall Schriver\nRandall Schriver served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs responsible for the People’s Republic of China\, Taiwan\, Mongolia\, Hong Kong\, Australia\, New Zealand\, and the Pacific Islands. SUMMARY:Issue Monday: Suicide by Doctor
DESCRIPTION:The Centennial Institute is hosting a physician-assisted suicide policy discussion with Carrie Earll\, Carrie Ann Lucas\, and Michael Norton. \nThis legislative session again explored allowing doctor-assisted suicide to be legal in Colorado. Fortunately\, both Democrats and Republicans prevented this from happening. Unfortunately\, the issue continues to arise across the country with more and more states including California making this legal. Join us for an important policy discussion to understand why if such a measure became law\, it would invert the doctor’s time-honored role from the sacred duty of sustaining life to the ghoulish power of terminating it. \nLeading the discussion will be Carrie Earll\, Vice President of Government and Public Policy at Focus on the Family\, Carrie Ann Lucas\,  J.D.\, CWLS\, Founder and Executive Director of Disabled Parents Rights\, and Michael J. Norton\, J.D.\, President-General Counsel of the Colorado Freedom Institute. \nSpeakers: \n \nRSVP Today\nAdmission is free and all are welcome\, but reservations are required. Complete the RSVP form below or call 303-963-3424 to reserve your space. \nParking for Leprino Hall is located in the shared parking lot on the West side of campus. If entering from Alameda\, follow the drive around campus to the West side. If entering from Garrison\, the parking lot is near the entrance. \n\nOnline Form – CI Issue Monday – April

SUMMARY:Issue Monday: Doing Immigration Right

Doing immigration right means doing it by the conservative principles of equality\, fairness\, free markets\, and rule of law. \nJoin us for a stimulating panel on how to begin\, chaired by Centennial Fellow Helen Raleigh with radio host Randy Corporon\, reform advocate Linda Chavez\, and attorney Anders Ingemarson. \nRSVP Today\nAdmission is free and all are welcome\, but reservations are required.
