SUMMARY:Movie Screening: "God's Not Dead: We the People"
DESCRIPTION:The God’s Not Dead series continues in “God’s Not Dead: We the People\,” as Reverend Dave finds himself at the defense of a group of Christian homeschooling families after they receive an impromptu inspection by a progressive\, local government official – who doesn’t like what she finds. Believing that the children are receiving an inferior education compared to their public school counterparts\, and potentially being unfairly indoctrinated at a young age by their Bible-believing parents\, the families are ordered to return their children to the public school system\, or else face exorbitant fines and contempt of court. \nTaken aback by the interference of the government\, and believing that their right to educate their own children as a freedom worth fighting for\, the resistant families\, along with Reverend Dave\, are invited to Washington to testify in a landmark congressional hearing that will determine the future of public (and private) education in our country for years to come. \nTicket donations are non-refundable. Limited seating. \nFree for CCU students with a valid ID number. \nTuesday\, October 5\, 2021\n7:00 pm\nCentury 16 Bel Mar\n440 S. Teller St.\nLakewood\, CO 80226

SUMMARY:20th Anniversary of 9/11 and Legacy of the Afghan War
DESCRIPTION:On September 11\, 2001\, terror unfolded in the sky and came to a devastating end at the World Trade Center\, the Pentagon\, and a field near Shanksville\, PA. That day will forever be etched in the minds of those who witnessed those horrific images as they occurred in real time. In the face of destruction\, American heroism and patriotism united the country to fight terrorism but also to begin the healing process. \nTwenty years later\, the nation is shocked again by headlines about the fall of Afghanistan. Two decades of war and efforts to bring stability and human rights to the Afghans stopped in a matter of days. Thirteen U.S. soldiers were killed during the withdrawal. As Americans come to grips with the horrifying news of the last few weeks\, many question whether the effort was worth the cost. \nJoin the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University for a commemorative service as we remember the lives lost\, honor the heroes of 9/11\, and discuss the Legacy of the Afghan War for America and the World. \n9/11 Memorial and the Legacy of Afghanistan for the United States and the World\nDr. Kiron K. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of America's Highest Court
DESCRIPTION:Ilya Shapiro\, director of the Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies at the Cato Institute\, will lecture on his latest book\, Supreme Disorder: Judicial Nominations and the Politics of America’s Highest Court. \nPolitics have always intruded on Supreme Court appointments. But although the Framers would recognize the way justices are nominated and confirmed today\, something is different. Why have appointments to the high court become one of the most explosive features of our system of government? \nAs Ilya Shapiro makes clear in Supreme Disorder\, this problem is part of a larger phenomenon. As government has grown\, its laws reaching even further into our lives\, the courts that interpret those laws have become enormously powerful. If we fight over each new appointment as though everything were at stake\, it’s because it is. \nWhen decades of constitutional corruption have left us subject to an all-powerful tribunal\, passions are sure to flare on the infrequent occasions when the political system has an opportunity to shape it. And so we find the process of judicial appointments verging on dysfunction. \nShapiro weighs the many proposals for reform\, from the modest (term limits) to the radical (court-packing)\, but shows that there can be no quick fix for a judicial system suffering a crisis of legitimacy. And in the end\, the only measure of the Court’s legitimacy that matters is the extent to which it maintains\, or rebalances\, our constitutional order. \nMonday\, April 19\, 2021\n7:00 pm MT – 8:30 pm MT\nWatch here: http://youtube.com/centennialinstitute \n[fusion_title title_type=”text” rotation_effect=”bounceIn” display_time=”1200″ highlight_effect=”circle” loop_animation=”off” highlight_width=”9″ highlight_top_margin=”0″ before_text=”” rotation_text=”” highlight_text=”” after_text=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility\,medium-visibility\,large-visibility” sticky_display=”normal\,sticky” class=”” id=”” content_align_medium=”” content_align_small=”” content_align=”left” size=”1″ font_size=”” animated_font_size=”” fusion_font_family_title_font=”” fusion_font_variant_title_font=”” line_height=”” letter_spacing=”” text_shadow=”no” text_shadow_vertical=”” text_shadow_horizontal=”” text_shadow_blur=”0″ text_shadow_color=”” margin_top_medium=”” margin_bottom_medium=”” margin_top_small=”” margin_bottom_small=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” margin_top_mobile=”” margin_bottom_mobile=”” text_color=”” animated_text_color=”” highlight_color=”” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””] \nAbout Ilya Shapiro \n[/fusion_title] \nIlya Shapiro is the director of the Robert A. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture: COVID-19 Didn't Break the Public School System. It Simply Exposed the Problems that Already Existed
DESCRIPTION:The pandemic saw many parents re-evaluating their children’s education. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters
DESCRIPTION:Join Abigail Shrier\, author of the book Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters\, for our February Distinguished Lecture series. \nUntil just a few years ago\, gender dysphoria—severe discomfort in one’s biological sex—was vanishingly rare. It was typically found in less than .01 percent of the population\, emerged in early childhood\, and afflicted males almost exclusively. \nBut today whole groups of female friends in colleges\, high schools\, and even middle schools across the country are coming out as “transgender.” These are girls who had never experienced any discomfort in their biological sex until they heard a coming-out story from a speaker at a school assembly or discovered the internet community of trans “influencers.” \nUnsuspecting parents are awakening to find their daughters in thrall to hip trans YouTube stars and “gender-affirming” educators and therapists who push life-changing interventions on young girls—including medically unnecessary double mastectomies and puberty blockers that can cause permanent infertility. \nAbigail Shrier\, a writer for the Wall Street Journal\, has dug deep into the trans epidemic\, talking to the girls\, their agonized parents\, and the counselors and doctors who enable gender transitions\, as well as to “detransitioners”—young women who bitterly regret what they have done to themselves. \nComing out as transgender immediately boosts these girls’ social status\, Shrier finds\, but once they take the first steps of transition\, it is not easy to walk back. She offers urgently needed advice about how parents can protect their daughters. \nA generation of girls is at risk. Abigail Shrier’s essential book will help you understand what the trans craze is and how you can inoculate your child against it—or how to retrieve her from this dangerous path. \nMonday\, February 15\, 2021\n7:00pm – 8:30pm MT\nWatch here: https://www.youtube.com/c/CentennialInstituteCCU \nAbout Abigail Shrier\nAbigail Shrier is a writer for the Wall Street Journal. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Ethics of COVID-19 Vaccines
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 vaccine has raised ethical questions. During our January Distinguished Lecture Series\, Dr. Ryan Anderson\, founder and editor in chief of Public Discourse\, explores many of these questions. Is COVID-19 vaccine developed from cell lines derived from an aborted fetus? If so\, should a citizen of conscience who is opposed to abortion avail herself of it to protect herself and her loved ones during this time of pandemic? What are other ethical implications around vaccines? Should governments make vaccinations mandatory? Could businesses refuse service without a vaccine “passport?” Colorado has mandated that a 22-year-old\, healthy\, “frontline journalist” receive the vaccines before a 64-year-old with lung problems. Is this vaccine distribution plan ethical? SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Dr. John Eastman\, Future Conservatism in America
DESCRIPTION:What does Trump’s Presidency Portend for the Future of Conservatism in America? \nPresident Trump really upset the status quo in D.C. If court challenges go his way\, he will continue to do so for another 4 years\, but even if not\, his presidency has had a profound impact on America. First\, the restoration of constitutionalism in the courts\, where the words of the Constitution actually bind the branches of government rather than serving as so much putty to be molded for current\, avant-garde agendas. Second\, a serious (though not yet remotely successful) pushback against an unelected and unaccountable administrative state\, with the hope of restoring policy-making power to the elected legislative branch (and\, ultimately\, to the people). Third\, a restoration of a foreign policy that pursues America’s interests in the world rather than\, as had increasingly become the case\, some nebulous (or even nefarious) globalism. Those are advances that every constitutional conservative should welcome\, and should continue to work to advance. \nOne negative\, though\, and that is the disinclination of Trump to tackle the ever-expanding federal budget. The deficit itself is obscene\, but the accumulated debt is now taking on proportions so large as to likely enslave future generations of Americans. Particularly when one realizes that much of spending by the federal government is not even constitutional–the spending power is limited to things for the “common defense and general welfare”—this is one area of focus to which conservatives need to re-dedicate themselves. \n\n  \nOnline Event: What does Trump’s Presidency Portend for the Future of Conservatism in America? \nMonday\, November 16 \n7:00 PM – 8:30 PM MT \nWatch here: https://www.youtube.com/CentennialInstituteCCU \n  \n\n \nAbout Dr. John Eastman: \nJohn C. SUMMARY:Online Event: Was Jesus a Socialist?
DESCRIPTION:Economist and historian Lawrence W. Reed has been hearing people say “Jesus was a socialist” for fifty years. And it has always bothered him. \nNow he is doing something about it. \nHis new book demolishes the claim that Jesus was a socialist. Jesus called on earthly governments to redistribute wealth? Or centrally plan the economy? Or even impose a welfare state? \nHardly. \nPoint by point\, Reed answers the claims of socialists and progressives who try to enlist Jesus in their causes. As he reveals\, nothing in the New Testament supports their contentions.\nWas Jesus a Socialist? could not be more timely. Socialism has made a shocking comeback in America. Poll after poll shows that young Americans have a positive image of socialism. In fact\, more than half say they would rather live in a socialist country than in a capitalist one. \nAnd as socialism has come back into vogue\, more and more of its advocates have tried to convince us that Jesus was a socialist. \nThis rhetoric has had an impact. According to a 2016 poll by the Barna Group\, Americans think socialism aligns better with Jesus’s teachings than capitalism does. When respondents were asked which of that year’s presidential candidates aligned closest to Jesus’s teachings\, a self-proclaimed “democratic socialist” came out on top. Sure enough\, the same candidate earned more primary votes from under-thirty voters than did the eventual Democratic and Republican nominees combined. \nAnd in a 2019 survey\, more than 70 percent of millennials said they were likely to vote for a socialist. \nOnline Event: Was Jesus a Socialist?\nWednesday\, September 16\, 2020\n7:00 PM – 8:30 PM MT\nWatch here: https://www.youtube.com/CentennialInstituteCCU \nAbout Lawrence Reed: Lawrence W. Reed is president emeritus of the Foundation of Economic Education (FEE) and the author or editor of several books\, including Excuse Me\, Professor: Challenging the Myths of Progressivism and Real Heroes: Inspiring True Stories of Courage\, Character\, and Conviction (ISI Books). Prior to joining FEE in 2008\, he served for twenty years as president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. He also taught economics full-time for nearly a decade. A frequent guest on radio and television\, Reed has written thousands of articles and delivers dozens of speeches each year.
