Kelly Sloan was born and raised in Calgary Alberta, Canada. He graduated from Mount Royal University with a degree in Criminology and served six years in the Canadian Army. He worked on campaigns and as a political writer throughout college and after his military service. Sloan worked in victim services with the Calgary Police Service and later with the RCMP, and also worked in the agricultural and energy industries. He moved to Grand Junction, CO in 2006 with the oil and gas industry. He started his own public affairs and political communications firm in2010 and became a Fellow in Energy Policy at the Centennial Institute in 2012. He has a background in journalism, having written a regular opinion column from 2009-2016, and serving as reporter or editor for the Grand Junction Business Times, the Colorado Statesman, and various trade publications. His work has been published in several state and national publications, and he has been a guest commentator on local, regional, and national radio and television. He served as Policy Advisor and Director for Bob Beauprez’ 2014 Gubernatorial campaign. He is a registered lobbyist in the state of Colorado, and has represented a variety of interests, including general aviation, energy, local government, and business at the state legislature and at the federal level. His firm, Sloan & Associates Public Affairs, provides government relations, communications, media relations, and PAC management for clients at the local, state, federal, and international levels.
