SUMMARY:2024 William L. Armstrong Award Dinner
DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited to attend the presentation of the 8th Annual William L. Armstrong Award to Mr. Robert Woodson\, Founder and President of the Woodson Center. \nThe evening will include a dinner\, award presentation\, and remarks from Wil and Kristy Armstrong\, Colorado Christian University President Eric Hogue\, and Armstrong Award recipient Robert Woodson. As we anticipate this prestigious event will sell out quickly\, we encourage you to register as soon as you are able. \nThe William L. Armstrong Award is presented in honor of former businessman\, United States Senator\, and Colorado Christian University President William L. Armstrong. The award is given annually to a leader who embodies the values that Armstrong held dear – faith\, family\, and freedom – and has made a difference in America’s culture through business\, politics\, or education. \nMr. Robert Woodson has had a profound influence on generations of Americans\, convincing young people and families in the inner cities to take personal responsibility for their own destinies.  Beginning in the 1960s as an active member of the civil rights movement\, Mr. Woodson went on to serve as the director of the Administration of Justice Division for the National Urban League in New York from 1971-1973\, developing strategies for reducing crime and strengthening community institutions. Because of his desire to revitalize and empower disadvantaged neighborhoods across America\, he founded the National Center for Neighborhood Enterprise in 1981\, and rechristened The Woodson Center in 2016. \n“Bob Woodson’s moral leadership\, especially on urban issues affecting young people and families\, is legendary. He has spent a lifetime convincing young people in inner cities to take personal responsibility for their own destinies and is the classic embodiment of faith\, family\, and freedom – the heart of the William L. Armstrong Award and of CCU’s mission.”  - Wil Armstrong\, son of William L. Armstrong and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Colorado Christian University. \nPast recipients of the award\, given annually since 2016\, include conservative talk show host Dennis Prager; Focus on the Family and “Family Talk” Founder Dr. James Dobson; former Attorney General and Counselor to President Ronald Reagan Edwin Meese III; legal scholar and professor Dr. Robert George; President of Hobby Lobby and Chairman of the Museum of the Bible Steve Green; Founder and Chairwoman of The Gloucester Institute Kay Coles James; nationally syndicated columnist Cal Thomas; and CEO\, President\, and General Counsel of Alliance Defending Freedom Kristen Waggoner. \nAbout Bob Woodson \nRobert L. Woodson\, Sr. is Founder and President of the Woodson Center\, 1776 Unites and Voices of Black Mothers United.  He is an influential leader on issues of poverty alleviation and empowering disadvantaged communities to become agents of their own uplift. Woodson is a frequent advisor to local\, state and federal government officials as well as business and philanthropic organizations. \nHis social activism dates back to the 1960s\, when as a young civil rights activist he developed and coordinated national and local community revitalization programs. During the 1970s he directed the National Urban League’s Administration of Justice division. Later he served as a Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. \nWoodson is frequently featured as a social commentator in print and on-air media\, including C-SPAN\, CNN\, Tucker Carlson Tonight\, The Mark Levin Show\, Meet the Press\, and other national and local broadcasts.  He is a contributing editor to The Hill\, The Washington Examiner and The Wall Street Journal\, and has published in influential newspapers and journals such as Forbes\, National Review\, The Washington Post\, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel\, Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy\, Vanderbilt Law Review\, and other national and local media outlets. \nHe is the recipient of the prestigious John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship award\, the Bradley Prizes presented by the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation\, the Presidential Citizens Medal\, the 2018 William Wilberforce Award\, The Heritage Foundation’s 2020 Salvatori Prize for American Citizenship\, 2021 Hillsdale College Freedom Leadership Award\, and many other honors. \nWoodson is the author of several books\, including On the Road to Economic Freedom\, The Triumphs of Joseph: How Today’s Community Healers Are Reviving Our Streets and Neighborhood\, Lessons From the Least of These:  The Woodson Principles\, the #1 bestseller\, Red\, White\, and Black: Rescuing American History from Revisionists and Race Hustlers\, and the newly released A Pathway to American Renewal:  Red\, White\, and Black. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Religious Freedom Rally for Jack Phillips
DESCRIPTION:When Colorado cake artist Jack Phillips opened his cakeshop 24 years ago\, he wanted to do more than just provide for his family and his employees. He wanted to serve his community\, share his artistic talents\, and honor God through his work every day. \nHe even named his business Masterpiece Cakeshop. The name was inspired at least in part by his favorite Bible verse\, Ephesians 2:10\, which says\, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus\, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” \nAs Jack says\, “We don’t want God to be part of our lives on just Sundays. We want Him to be part of our lives every day.” \nThat’s why Jack was shocked when not just his business\, but his faith became the subject of vicious attacks and threats of government punishment when his conscience would not allow him to design a custom cake for a same-sex wedding. \nThe government should not force anyone to create art that conflicts with their conscience. Yet that is exactly what the government did to Jack. And if the government has the power to tell you what to believe on the subject of marriage\, it has that same power over all issues. \nThat’s un-American. And terrifying. \nJack’s case will be argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in early December. Join Jack Phillips\, Colorado Christian University\, Alliance Defending Freedom\, and faith leaders from around Colorado for a rally in support of religious freedom on November 8\, 2017 at 10:00am at the Colorado Christian University Event Center. \nLet’s send a message to Washington\, D.C. that religious freedom needs to be protected! \nReligious Freedom Rally for Jack Phillips\nWednesday\, November 8\, 2017\n10:00am-12:00pm MT\nColorado Christian University\nEvent Center\n8787 W. SUMMARY:Debate on religious liberty in the public square
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an important debate on religious liberty in the public square. What does it mean to balance the separation of church and state? How does religious freedom interact with public accommodation laws? These issues are becoming more prevalent as people of faith encounter more aggressive government overreach. Consider the recent Hobby Lobby and Little Sisters of the Poor cases\, Christian bakers fined for refusing to participate in gay wedding ceremonies\, Christian colleges targeted because of their lifestyle expectations. The list goes on and on. \nThis debate will feature Dr. Alex McFarland of American Family Radio with Theresa Lynn Sidebotham\, Esq.\, founder of Telios Law PLLC\, against Michael L. “Mikey” Weinstein\, founder and president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) with Scott Moss\, Esq.\, who teaches and conducts research at the University of Colorado Law School. \nThe event is sponsored by the Colorado Fireline Coalition and will be moderated by Dan Caplis\, morning radio host for KNUS 710 News/Talk. \nTuesday\, April 11\, 2017\n7:00 pm – 9:00 pm\nColorado Christian University Event Center\n8787 W. Alameda Ave. Lakewood\, CO 80226 \n \nAbout the Speakers \nBesides being one of the country’s foremost apologists\, Alex McFarland also hosts the American Family Radio Network’s “Exploring the Word” and the weekly television program “Viral Truth” on the National Religious Broadcasters Network.
