In this role\, he leads one of the largest annual gatherings of conservatives in the Western United States and hosts numerous notable speakers on the campus of Colorado Christian University. He oversees the Centennial Institute’s lobbying team\, working to shape policy at the Colorado Capitol to advance faith\, family\, and freedom. Jeff is also the editor of the Centennial Review\, a monthly speech digest distributed to thousands of readers across the country. \nA regular writer\, his pieces have been published in USA Today\, Fox News\, Denver Post\, Colorado Springs Gazette\, Washington Examiner\, Townhall\, Colorado Politics\, and many others. He has appeared on Fox News\, CSPAN\, OANN\, Newsmax\, and many local stations. Jeff earned his BA degrees in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Westmont College\, Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary\, and Master of Political Management from George Washington University. Jeff is an ultra-runner\, former river guide\, and loves to be outdoors. He and his wife\, Nicole\, have four children and live on a ranch in Elizabeth\, Colorado. \nScott Wasserman \nScott Wasserman has lived in Colorado for over twenty-years and has had a long career in state politics and policy. As President of the Bell Policy Center\, Scott has worked to expand economic mobility for every Coloradan by educating policymakers about the state’s fiscal options\, fighting back against predatory practices\, and advocating for two generation solutions to economic and racial inequality. \nPrior to joining the Bell\, Scott served Governor John Hickenlooper as a Deputy Chief of Staff and\, Lt. Governors Joe Garcia\, and Lt. Governor Donna Lynne as Chief of staff. In these roles\, he wrote legislation creating the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative\, oversaw government operations in times of emergency\, and assisted state agency leaders forge a more integrated approach to education and workforce issues. Scott spent many years working for the Service Employees International Union in a variety of roles\, eventually becoming president of Colorado WINS\, the state’s state employee union\, and leading the union through the challenges of the Great Recession. He regularly presents to community leaders\, media\, and students on the policy making process. He has a B.A in Middle Eastern Studies from George Washington University\, has taught for many years and works as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Scrivner School. Scott lives in Denver with his wife\, two children\, and five chickens. He enjoys nature and tinkers with things in the kitchen\, workshop\, or the backyard whenever he can. \nLuige del Puerto \n \nLuige del Puerto\, a veteran political reporter and award-winning journalist\, is Editor of Colorado Politics and The Denver Gazette. He previously served as publisher and editor of Arizona Capitol Times\, a Phoenix-based media company that covers public policy and politics. A native of the Philippines\, Del Puerto cut his journalistic teeth covering crime in the streets of Metro Manila. At the Philippine Daily Inquirer\, he pursued stories about labor\, elections and national security\, covering coup d’état attempts in his home country. He and his wife moved to the United States in 2006. He has won numerous local and national awards in the U.S. for his reporting. DESCRIPTION:Join the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University for an evening with the premiere political theorist of the modern Western world: Dr. Yoram Hazony. \nThe idea that American conservatism is identical to “classical” liberalism—widely held since the 1960s—is seriously mistaken. Dr. Hazony argues that the best hope for Western democracy is a return to the empiricist\, religious\, and nationalist traditions of America and Britain—the conservative traditions that brought greatness to the English-speaking nations and became the model for national freedom for the entire world. \nHazony will examine how Anglo-American conservatism became a distinctive alternative to divine-right monarchy\, Puritan theocracy\, and liberal revolution. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226 \nAbout Dr. Yoram Hazony: \nDr. Yoram Hazony is the President of the Herzl Institute in Jerusalem\, and currently serves as Chairman of the Edmund Burke Foundation\, a public affairs institute based in Washington that has hosted the National Conservatism Conference since 2019. \nHis book The Virtue of Nationalism was published by Basic Books in September 2018. It has been selected as Conservative Book of the Year for 2019\, and was an amazon #1 best-seller in both International Diplomacy and Nationalism. \nHis most recent book Conservatism: A Rediscovery was published by Regnery in May 2022. \nHis previous books include The Philosophy of Hebrew Scripture (Cambridge University Press\, 2012)\, which won the second place PROSE award for the best book in the category of Theology and Religion by the Association of American Publishers; The Jewish State: The Struggle for Israel’s Soul (Basic Books\, 2000); and God and Politics in Esther (Cambridge University Press\, 2016). \nHis work has appeared in The Wall St. Journal\, The New York Times\, Fox News\, CNN\, NPR\, Time Magazine\, The New Republic\, National Review\, Commentary\, First Things\, and American Affairs\, among others. In April 2016\, he appeared with Morgan Freeman in his hit National Geographic miniseries “The Story of God.” You can watch them talk about God here. \nEarlier he founded and headed the Shalem Center\, a Jerusalem research institute that conducted nearly two decades of pioneering work in the fields of philosophy\, political theory\, Bible\, Talmud\, Jewish and Zionist history\, Middle East Studies and archaeology beginning in 1994. The Center’s publishing arm\, Shalem Press\, became Israel’s leading publisher of Western philosophy translated into Hebrew and published Azure magazine. In 2013\, Shalem was accredited to grant Israel’s first Liberal Arts B.A.\, and formally became Shalem College. He served as President of Shalem from 1994-2002\, and as Provost from 2005-2012. A journalistic write-up about his Shalem work is here. \nAfter that\, he served as a member of the Israel Council for Higher Education’s commission on General Studies and Liberal Arts programs in Israel’s universities and colleges\, and was Director of the John Templeton Foundation‘s project in Jewish Philosophical Theology during the years 2010-2018. \nHe was born in Rehovot\, Israel\, in 1964. He graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in East Asian Studies in 1986\, and completed his Ph.D. at Rutgers University in Political Theory in 1993. As an undergraduate\, he founded and was the first editor of Princeton’s conservative student journal\, The Princeton Tory. Rowe is a senior visiting fellow at the Woodson Center\, and a writer for the 1776 Unites Campaign. He is a trustee at the Thomas B. Fordham Institute and a senior advisor for the Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism (FAIR For All)\, Parents Defending Education\, and the National Summer School Initiative (NSSI). \nMr. Rowe is widely published and quoted in the popular press\, including The Wall Street Journal\, USA Today\, C-SPAN\, the New York Post\, the Washington Examiner\, Education Week and Education Next. In addition to serving ten years as CEO of Public Prep\, a nonprofit network of public charter schools based in the South Bronx and Lower East Side of Manhattan\, he was deputy director of postsecondary success at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Rowe won two public service Emmys while serving as the senior vice president of strategic partnerships and public affairs at MTV. He was the director of the strategy and performance measurement at the USA Freedom Corps office in the White House and co-founder and president of Third Millennium Media. Ph.D. is executive vice president of the Religious Freedom Institute in Washington\, DC and Scholar-at-Large and the former dean of the Robertson School of Government at Regent University.   His research and teaching focus on religion\, ethics\, and international affairs. Patterson previously taught at Georgetown University and has extensive government experience\, including service as a White House Fellow and special assistant to the director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management\, two stints in the State Department’s Bureau of Political and Military Affairs\, and over twenty years of service as an officer and commander in the Air National Guard.  Patterson has spoken for many government audiences such as the French Department of Defense\, U.S. Military Academy (West Point)\, the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis)\, the Armed Forces Chaplains Center\, National Defense University\, the Pentagon\, the Naval Postgraduate School\, the Foreign Service Institute\, and other government venues.  In addition to dozens of peer-reviewed academic articles\, he is the author or editor of eighteen books\, including Just War and Christian Traditions (with J. Ph.D. is executive vice president of the Religious Freedom Institute in Washington\, DC and Scholar-at-Large and the former dean of the Robertson School of Government at Regent University.   His research and teaching focus on religion\, ethics\, and international affairs. SUMMARY:In Search of Ancient Roots
DESCRIPTION:Protestant evangelicalism is in crisis. Today it is increasingly difficult for Protestants to identify what counts as distinctively Protestant\, much less what counts as evangelical. As evangelicals increasingly lose contact with the churches and traditions descending from the Reformation\, and as relations with Roman Catholicism continue to thaw\, it becomes harder to explain why one should remain committed to the Reformation in the face of perceived deficits and theological challenges with the Protestant tradition. A common complaint about Protestant evangelicalism is its apparent disconnect from ancient Christianity. The antiquity and catholicity of Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy seem to outshine the relative novelty of the Reformation. Some evangelical churches appear to be uninterested in the ancient historical roots of their faith as well as being liturgically and doctrinally unstable. Many within evangelicalism seem to have accepted at face value the suggestion that the evangelical faith is no more than a threadbare descendant of ancient Christianity. The result is that a number of younger Protestants in recent years have abandoned evangelicalism\, turning instead to practices and traditions that appear more rooted in the early church. In Search of Ancient Roots examines this phenomenon and places it within a wider historical context. Ken Stewart argues that the evangelical tradition in fact has a much healthier track record of interacting with Christian antiquity than it is usually given credit for. DESCRIPTION:One of America’s foremost scholars of religion examines the tumultuous era that gave birth to the modern Judeo-Christian tradition. In Crucible of Faith\, Philip Jenkins argues that much of the Judeo-Christian tradition we know today was born between 250-50 BCE\, during a turbulent “Crucible Era.” It was during these years that Judaism grappled with Hellenizing forces and produced new religious ideas that reflected and responded to their changing world. By the time of the fall of the Temple in 70 CE\, concepts that might once have seemed bizarre became normalized-and thus passed on to Christianity and later Islam. DESCRIPTION:One of America’s foremost scholars of religion examines the tumultuous era that gave birth to the modern Judeo-Christian tradition. In Crucible of Faith\, Philip Jenkins argues that much of the Judeo-Christian tradition we know today was born between 250-50 BCE\, during a turbulent “Crucible Era.” It was during these years that Judaism grappled with Hellenizing forces and produced new religious ideas that reflected and responded to their changing world. By the time of the fall of the Temple in 70 CE\, concepts that might once have seemed bizarre became normalized-and thus passed on to Christianity and later Islam.
