SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Antifa: Stories from Inside the Black Bloc
DESCRIPTION:For our October Distinguished Lecture Series\, Jack Posobiec will be discussing his new book The Antifa: Stories from Inside the Black Bloc. \nFew in the media have followed Antifa more closely – and have the scars to prove it – than journalist Jack Posobiec. \nFrom infiltrating their 2016 meetings where they planned their attack on Trump’s inauguration to going undercover in Seattle’s CHAZ in 2020\, Posobiec has never backed down from exposing the true nature of Antifa. \nPosobiec will discuss the secret history of this radical anarchist group while integrating his personal encounters with some of its most hardcore and violent members. While few Americans were aware of Antifa’s existence until recently\, it is actually part of a violent revolutionary tradition that dates back more than a hundred years. And\, like its predecessors\, it is driven by an overriding aim: the overthrow of the existing political order and capitalism\, and replacing it with a communist state. \nAntifa saw and seized its chance in 2020. Because it was not brought to heel – indeed\, was encouraged in its violent mayhem by sympathetic city and state governments – it now looms as a greater threat than ever before. \nDistinguished Lecture Series: The Antifa: Stories from Inside the Black Bloc\nJack Posobiec\nMonday\, October 18\, 2021\n7:00pm – 8:30pm MT\nAnschutz Great Room\nColorado Christian University\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\nLakewood\, CO 80226\nRegister below to attend in-person or watch online here. \nAbout Jack Posobiec: \nJack Posobiec is the Senior Editor of Human Events\, a political news and analysis outlet founded in 1944. Prior to that\, Posobiec served as a Washington\, D.C. correspondent at One America News Network. Posobiec is a veteran intelligence officer of the United States Navy with multiple deployments\, including Guantanamo Bay and East Asia. At Guantanamo Bay\, Posobiec served as a HUMINT (human intelligence) analyst in the interrogation cell. In 2014\, he joined the Office of Naval Intelligence as an officer at the Kennedy Irregular Warfare Center which provided intelligence to Navy Special Warfare and Navy Expeditionary Combat Command. \nPosobiec completed his final deployment in 2016 as the Intelligence Director for Navy Expeditionary Forces Command Pacific – Task Force 75. Task Force 75 provides expeditionary intelligence throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region as directed by 7th Fleet Commander. \nPosobiec has written three non-fiction books: Citizens for Trump: The Inside Story of the People’s Movement to Take Back America; 4D Warfare: A Doctrine for a New Generation of Politics; and Antifa: Inside the Black Bloc. In 2019\, Posobiec was awarded a Lincoln Fellowship by the Claremont Institute. Posobiec is also a supporter of Let Them Live\, a nonprofit that saves lives from abortion by supporting women in crisis pregnancies. Posobiec’s life was the inspiration for the graphic novel ‘Agent Poso’ by Chuck Dixon and Brett Smith. \nAfter graduating from Temple University\, Posobiec spent 2 years in China working in international business and learning to speak fluent Mandarin Chinese. Originally from the Philadelphia area\, Posobiec now resides in Washington\, D.C. with his wife\, Tanya\, and their two sons. \nOnline Form – DL – Jack Posobiec – 10.18.21 \nPowered by Formstack

SUMMARY:20th Anniversary of 9/11 and Legacy of the Afghan War
DESCRIPTION:On September 11\, 2001\, terror unfolded in the sky and came to a devastating end at the World Trade Center\, the Pentagon\, and a field near Shanksville\, PA. That day will forever be etched in the minds of those who witnessed those horrific images as they occurred in real time. In the face of destruction\, American heroism and patriotism united the country to fight terrorism but also to begin the healing process. \nTwenty years later\, the nation is shocked again by headlines about the fall of Afghanistan. Two decades of war and efforts to bring stability and human rights to the Afghans stopped in a matter of days. Thirteen U.S. soldiers were killed during the withdrawal. As Americans come to grips with the horrifying news of the last few weeks\, many question whether the effort was worth the cost. \nJoin the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University for a commemorative service as we remember the lives lost\, honor the heroes of 9/11\, and discuss the Legacy of the Afghan War for America and the World. \n9/11 Memorial and the Legacy of Afghanistan for the United States and the World\nDr. Kiron K. SUMMARY:In Search of Ancient Roots
DESCRIPTION:Protestant evangelicalism is in crisis. Today it is increasingly difficult for Protestants to identify what counts as distinctively Protestant\, much less what counts as evangelical. As evangelicals increasingly lose contact with the churches and traditions descending from the Reformation\, and as relations with Roman Catholicism continue to thaw\, it becomes harder to explain why one should remain committed to the Reformation in the face of perceived deficits and theological challenges with the Protestant tradition. A common complaint about Protestant evangelicalism is its apparent disconnect from ancient Christianity. The antiquity and catholicity of Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy seem to outshine the relative novelty of the Reformation. Some evangelical churches appear to be uninterested in the ancient historical roots of their faith as well as being liturgically and doctrinally unstable. Many within evangelicalism seem to have accepted at face value the suggestion that the evangelical faith is no more than a threadbare descendant of ancient Christianity. The result is that a number of younger Protestants in recent years have abandoned evangelicalism\, turning instead to practices and traditions that appear more rooted in the early church. In Search of Ancient Roots examines this phenomenon and places it within a wider historical context. Ken Stewart argues that the evangelical tradition in fact has a much healthier track record of interacting with Christian antiquity than it is usually given credit for. He surveys five centuries of Protestant engagement with the ancient church. \nMonday\, November 18\, 2019\n7:00pm – 8:30pm MT\nColorado Christian University\nAnschutz Student Center Great Room\n8787 W. Alameda Ave. Lakewood\, CO 80226 \nAbout Dr. Ken Stewart \nDr. Ken Stewart is a specialist in the history of Christianity from the Reformation to the present with special interest in the development of the evangelical Protestant tradition. He has a growing interest in early Christianity and the transmission of doctrine from the early church forward to our time. He also teaches early modern European history and the two-semester Christian Doctrine sequence required for sophomores. SUMMARY:Crucible of Faith
DESCRIPTION:One of America’s foremost scholars of religion examines the tumultuous era that gave birth to the modern Judeo-Christian tradition. In Crucible of Faith\, Philip Jenkins argues that much of the Judeo-Christian tradition we know today was born between 250-50 BCE\, during a turbulent “Crucible Era.” It was during these years that Judaism grappled with Hellenizing forces and produced new religious ideas that reflected and responded to their changing world. By the time of the fall of the Temple in 70 CE\, concepts that might once have seemed bizarre became normalized-and thus passed on to Christianity and later Islam. Drawing widely on contemporary sources from outside the canonical Old and New Testaments\, Jenkins reveals an era of political violence and social upheaval that ultimately gave birth to entirely new ideas about religion\, the afterlife\, Creation and the Fall\, and the nature of God and Satan. \nMonday\, October 14\, 2019\n7:00pm – 8:30pm MT\nColorado Christian University\nAnschutz Student Center Great Room\n8787 W. Alameda Ave.\, Lakewood\, CO 80226 \n \n  \nAbout Dr. Philip Jenkins\nPhilip Jenkins is a Distinguished Professor of History at Baylor University. His many books include The Next Christendom (2002) and The Lost History of Christianity (2008). His most recent title is Crucible of Faith: The Ancient Revolution That Made Our Modern Religious World (Basic Books\, 2017). \nOnline Form – DL – P. Jenkins – 10.14.19 \nPowered by Formstack
