SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Ethics of COVID-19 Vaccines
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 vaccine has raised ethical questions. During our January Distinguished Lecture Series\, Dr. Ryan Anderson\, founder and editor in chief of Public Discourse\, explores many of these questions. Is COVID-19 vaccine developed from cell lines derived from an aborted fetus? If so\, should a citizen of conscience who is opposed to abortion avail herself of it to protect herself and her loved ones during this time of pandemic? What are other ethical implications around vaccines? Should governments make vaccinations mandatory? Could businesses refuse service without a vaccine “passport?” Colorado has mandated that a 22-year-old\, healthy\, “frontline journalist” receive the vaccines before a 64-year-old with lung problems. Is this vaccine distribution plan ethical? What is the government’s ethical role in creating\, researching\, informing\, distributing\, and mandating vaccinations? \nDistinguished Lecture Series: Ethics of COVID-19 Vaccines\nDr. Ryan Anderson\nWednesday\, January 13\, 2021\n6:30 pm MT\nWatch: https://www.youtube.com/c/CentennialInstituteCCU  \nAbout Dr. Ryan Anderson \nRyan T. SUMMARY:Distinguished Lecture Series: Dr. John Eastman\, Future Conservatism in America
DESCRIPTION:What does Trump’s Presidency Portend for the Future of Conservatism in America? \nPresident Trump really upset the status quo in D.C. If court challenges go his way\, he will continue to do so for another 4 years\, but even if not\, his presidency has had a profound impact on America. First\, the restoration of constitutionalism in the courts\, where the words of the Constitution actually bind the branches of government rather than serving as so much putty to be molded for current\, avant-garde agendas. Second\, a serious (though not yet remotely successful) pushback against an unelected and unaccountable administrative state\, with the hope of restoring policy-making power to the elected legislative branch (and\, ultimately\, to the people). Third\, a restoration of a foreign policy that pursues America’s interests in the world rather than\, as had increasingly become the case\, some nebulous (or even nefarious) globalism. Those are advances that every constitutional conservative should welcome\, and should continue to work to advance. \nOne negative\, though\, and that is the disinclination of Trump to tackle the ever-expanding federal budget. The deficit itself is obscene\, but the accumulated debt is now taking on proportions so large as to likely enslave future generations of Americans. Particularly when one realizes that much of spending by the federal government is not even constitutional–the spending power is limited to things for the “common defense and general welfare”—this is one area of focus to which conservatives need to re-dedicate themselves. \n\n  \nOnline Event: What does Trump’s Presidency Portend for the Future of Conservatism in America? \nMonday\, November 16 \n7:00 PM – 8:30 PM MT \nWatch here: https://www.youtube.com/CentennialInstituteCCU \n  \n\n \nAbout Dr. John Eastman: \nJohn C. Eastman is the Henry Salvatori Professor of Law & Community Service at Chapman University. Eastman\, a scholar of constitutional law and particularly religious freedom\, earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School. He also holds a PhD in government from Claremont University and a BA\, cum laude\, in politics and economics from the University of Dallas. \nHe has served as dean of the Chapman University School of Law and also as a law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. \n

SUMMARY:Reviewing Colorado's Police Reform Legislation
DESCRIPTION:Following the death of George Floyd\, the Colorado legislature passed a bi-partisan bill reforming Colorado policing. How does this bill improve or harm Colorado policing? Is Colorado facing a systemic racist policing problem? What are the positive and negative effects Black Lives Matter is having on policing in America? Why is Denver seeing a spike in violent crime? Are police doing enough to stop destructive protests in Denver and Aurora? \nExplore these questions and more as the Centennial Institute hosts George Brauchler\, D.A. 18th Judicial District\, and Patrick Neville\, House Minority Leader\, for a discussion. \nTuesday\, June 30\, 2020 \n2:00 pm – 3:00 pm MT

SUMMARY:The Sin of Racism and America's Promise of Equality\, Part 2 - Solutions
DESCRIPTION:  \nFollowing an extremely popular and well-received discussion on the sin of racism and America’s promise of equality\, the same panel is back to discuss solutions further. In the weeks since the first discussion\, congress\, states\, and municipalities have introduced legislation to reform policing. What’s right and what’s wrong with this approach? Leftist organizations are seeking to go further in defunding the police\, tearing down statues\, requiring reparations\, and even creating autonomous zones. How does America address the challenges of bad policing and racism without dividing the nation? What are other solutions to improving access to the American dream for black Americans? \nJoin the Centennial Institute\, Antonia Okafor Cover\, CJ Pearson\, Dr. Biff Gore\, and Casper Stockham to explore these issues and more. \nThursday\, June 25\, 2020 \n2:00 pm – 3:00 pm MT

SUMMARY:The Sin of Racism and America’s Promise of Equality
DESCRIPTION:Colorado Christian University mourns the tragic death and unjust killing of George Floyd. Sadly\, this is not an isolated incident and points to a deeper racism that festers in our land. At the same time\, we also condemn those who seek to exploit the tragedy of this situation by looting\, torching vehicles\, burning buildings\, defacing national monuments and destroying hundreds of businesses. The number of people killed as a result of violent protest represents a disturbing breakdown in the rule of law and cannot be excused as a just response to this incident.\nHow do we seek justice for the black community? How do we improve policing in America? How do we protect our cities and local communities from violent riots? How does America live up to its claims of one Nation under God\, indivisible\, with liberty and justice for all? \nJoin the Centennial Institute and community leaders Antonia Okafor Cover\, CJ Pearson\, Dr. Biff Gore\, and Casper Stockham for a Zoom discussion on these issues. \nThe Sin of Racism and America’s Promise of Equality\nThursday\, June 11\, 2020\n1:00 pm MT \nWatch here: https://www.youtube.com/CentennialInstitute/
