The Convention of States Project

October 13, 2016 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

convention of states

The federal government has overreached its constitutionally-established boundaries. Is there a solution beyond the November election?

Join us for an information session on a proposed solution: The Convention of States Project, which seeks to utilize Article V of the United States Constitution and call a Convention of States to restrict the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.

Michael Farris, renowned constitutional attorney, will discuss what a Convention of States is within the context of the U.S. Constitution, how the Founders originally envisioned States’ ability to be the check on the federal government, and what you should be aware of to make an in-formed decision on the Article V issue. Chris Murray, Denver attorney and litigator, and a CCU faculty panel will engage Dr. Farris with questions and concerns generally raised opposed to a Convention of States solution.

Michael Farris, co-founder of the Convention of States Project. Farris is the Chancellor of Patrick Henry College and Chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association. He was the founding president of each organization. During his career as a constitutional appellate litigator, he has served as lead counsel in the United States Supreme Court, eight federal circuit courts, and the appellate courts of thirteen states. Farris has been a leader on Capitol Hill for over thirty years and is widely respected for his leadership in the defense of homeschooling, religious freedom, and the preservation of American sovereignty.

Chris Murray, attorney and shareholder at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP. He was formerly Deputy General Counsel for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign and as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Timothy M. Tymkovich of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Murray is a litigator with a unique combination of experience in commercial, political and public law matters.
