Issue Monday: The Border, Posse Comitatus, and the Insurrection Act

March 16 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join Centennial Institute for a conversation with The Honorable Ken Cuccinelli, former Acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

The enforcement of immigration law, predominantly through the mobilization of ICE forces, has dominated headlines over the past few months. Many claim that this use of federal forces is an abuse of power. However, this conventional wisdom relies heavily on the notion that the Reconstruction-era posse comitatus law forbids the President from using the military in domestic law enforcement. Hon. Cuccinelli will examine this issue and explain when – and why – this understanding is wrong.
