Centennial Institute Joins Advancing American  Freedom in Filing Two Amicus Briefs

August 25, 2025

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University has signed on to two amicus briefs filed by Advancing American Freedom with the United States Supreme Court.

The briefs pertain to two parental rights cases under consideration for certiorari in the 2025-2026 docket. If the Supreme Court agrees to hear Foote v. Ludlow and Lee v. Poudre, the Court will evaluate the issue of schools secretly transitioning children without parental consent.

Foote v. Ludlow is appealing the lower district and First Circuit courts’ dismissal of a complaint brought by parents Stephen Foote and Marissa Silvestri against Baird Middle School in Ludlow, Massachusetts, after the school facilitated the social transition of their daughter without their consent.

Similarly, Lee v. Poudre is challenging the Poudre School District in Wellington, Colorado, for intentionally subverting parental consent by discouraging school officials from disclosing policies and actions taken to affirm gender identities contrary to the students’ biological sex.

“Parental rights are not optional add-ons to our constitutional order; they are essential safeguards of liberty. When schools or government agencies attempt to override parents, they erode both the family and the foundations of self-government,” said Greg Schaller, Centennial Institute director. “Foote v. Ludlow and Lee v. Poudre strike at the heart of one of the most fundamental questions in a free society: Who directs the upbringing of children—the state or the parents?”

Centennial Institute applauded the Supreme Court’s decision in Mahmoud v. Taylor this past session and hopes to see the Court continue to defend parental rights from government overreach.

“The Centennial Institute stands with parents because strong families are the cornerstone of a free and virtuous society. Without parental authority, freedom itself is imperiled,” said Schaller.
