LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University is pleased to announce that Professor Rob Natelson has joined the Institute as its Senior Fellow in Constitutional Jurisprudence.
Natelson is the nation’s most-published active scholar on the U.S. Constitution’s amendment procedure and is among the most frequently cited constitutional scholars by sitting U.S. Supreme Court justices.

Since 2013, Natelson’s research has been relied upon in 41 citations across 13 Supreme Court cases, including recent 2026 opinions in Ellingburg v. United States and Learning Resources v. Trump, as well as prior citations by Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, Alito and Kagan. His work has also been cited by federal appeals courts and at least 18 state supreme courts.
Natelson is a former “Main Street” attorney turned law professor who has practiced or taught across areas as diverse as real estate, remedies, legal history, commercial law, oil and gas law and water law. Notably, he spent 25 years teaching Constitutional Law, Constitutional History, First Amendment law, at three universities. Most recently, he led the Independence Institute’s Constitutional Studies Center and its Article V Information Center. He also served as a senior advisor to the Convention of States Project and as a Senior Fellow at the Initiative and Referendum Institute.
Natelson is the author of “The Original Constitution: The Historical Meaning of America’s Supreme Law” (4th ed., 2025), a legal treatise on the Constitution’s amendment process, and two major legal treatises on real estate subjects. He also wrote the influential “Article V Handbook” for state lawmakers. His writing has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Economist and The Hill, among other national outlets.
