Dr. Kathryn Palermo has been in healthcare for 15 years and is a certified med-surg registered nurse. The majority of her nursing career was spent at the bedside in the Acute Care setting. She has been teaching at CCU since 2019.
Dr. Palermo holds a degree in Practical Theology from Christ for the Nations Institute, a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Dallas Baptist University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado, Beth-El School of Nursing, a Masters Degree in Nursing Leadership and Management from Western Governor’s University and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences.
In 2021 she was a contributing author in the book High Reliability Organizations: A Healthcare Handbook for Patient Safety & Quality, Second Edition. In November 2022 she presented a CCU Nursing project at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) conference in Chicago, IL. In the summer of 2023 she presented that same project at the Nurse Educator’s Conference of the Rockies in Breckenridge, CO. In the fall of 2023 she published and presented a CCU research study at the Sigma Theta Tau International Biennial Convention in San Antonio, TX related to the use of case-study learning in nursing pharmacology along with a former CCU nursing student. Recently, Dr. Palermo published two articles in the Journal of Christian Nursing, and is currently conducting a study at CCU on the use of virtual reality in nursing simulation.
Additionally, Dr. Palermo stays busy with raising 4 boys. Her husband is a Deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and is currently the School Resource Officer at Valor Christian High School. She spends her free time with her family baking, traveling to the beaches in Florida, watching her boys play sports and involving herself in national and local politics. She serves as the Legislative Liaison and Prayer Action Chapter Leader for the Colorado chapter of Concerned Women for America.
